Unhappy New Air-conditioning & Heat pump not working

Hi,

Not sure where to post this, but hope you can help me. I have a late 2009 25FB International. This is its maiden voyage other than bringing her home. We check the air-conditioning, heat-pump and furnace before leaving home. All worked fine. Last week I ran the heat-pump for a while and it worked fine. This morning it was chilly so I turned on the heat-pump again. Nothing, so then I tried the AC (changing the temp setting of course) Nothing. I've even pushed the temp difference up to 10 above and below ambient temp. It does turn the furnace on when in that mode but the other modes don't seem to work. We are plugged into 30amp service and I checked that and unplugged and replugged everything, including testing the GFI circuit that is on the service. All is well, everything else works including the microwave. The only thing that I can see that seems slightly odd is that the zone button flashes 1 when I hit mode. I don't have any other modes. I know the comfort control has power as it eliminates and will turn the furnace on so I suspect something went wrong with the AC unit.

Thanks in advance.

It sure sounds like a power issue to me. I would recheck all of the circuit breakers.

I have the same system in my '05 25FB and have found that sometimes to AC/Heat Pump unit take an awfully long time to come on after setting the temp. Sometimes it is as long as four or five minutes. Make sure that you are giving it enough time to respond after changing the setting.

Thanks Moosetags,

I did check and re-the circuit breakers and all looked OK, BUT, when I actually went to turn them off and then back on, All works. So I guess that even though it the circuit wasn't "popped off" it still wasn't all the way on. I've learned to check physically not just visually. I'm so glad that it isn't malfunctioning!!

Thanks, this forum is great!!

I am unsure about the heat pump used on Airstreams, but larger home heat pumps have a timer that delays activation when switching from heat to cool (and vice versa) for about five minutes. This prevents compressor damage. During this delay, nothing seems to happen; no switching noises, compressor noise, etc. -- the unit sounds like it is off. And, if you switch it back and forth a couple of times, the delay starts when you stop switching it, not when you started (the first time).

I suspect that your unit may have a similar delay-timer.

I sure am glad that the problem turned out to be something simple. When most 110 volt circuit breakers that I have seen trip, the switch only moves about 1/8" off the set position. They must then be manually moved to the full off position before they can be reset. This makes a tripped breaker hard to spot without real good light on it.

Mine makes loud squeaking noises when shutting down (sound like belt or motor slowing down) and slight squeak on startup but runs fine - 2009 25fb in both heat pump or a/c mode - is this normal - just started using it....
