Mini split ?

This is a question for anyone out there who has installed a mini split/heat pump. Has anyone tried hiding the control unit and vents ? I was thinking of mounting a mini split up on the hitch( i then would have to figure out propane tank placement ) and having vents that pump out of the silly drawers under the gaucho. Aesthetically I like the idea of not having an ac unit on the roof of my 1962 Tradewind 24. My other easier option is to just go with a dometic penguin or something with a heat strip, although I understand the heat strip won’t be too efficient as heat rises. I was also thinking a nice louvered aluminum cover could be built that would protect the unit from road debris and make it look nicer. I should probably not try to reinvent the wheel, but the costs seem similar between roof mounted RV specific and a nice split unit, and some splits seem cheaper. I imagine they are a lot quieter and more efficient as well. I know there are stealthy automotive ac setups like vintage air type that have antique looking vents, perhaps I could adapt something of that sort.

The list of threads in this very sub-forum shows one mini split thread on the first page:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f427/

. . . and maybe more on subsequent pages IMO.

Also these "mini split" search results disclose a variety of others:

https://www.google.com/search?q=mini...=airforums.com

Touring Dan's thread has some good photos and links to other threads IMO.

Good luck,

62Rosie, we just finished installing an LG mini split on our 55. We hid the air handler underneath the rear bed with vented foot locker doors and ducted the system. The condenser is on the tongue and we made an aluminum shroud to protect it like you mentioned. We just got back from traveling for a week and finalized our testing. All worked well. I have some photos that may help on our thread. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions if you go that route.

If you look on our thread listed below and start at about post #471, that’s when we started getting into the mini split. If you narrow down any questions, I will try and answer them. We are extremely happy with the performance.

The search function on the App is reportedly not so not if that is what you are using. On the full main version of this site, there is a blue box search above powered by Google which works great IMO.

Cheers,
