Looking for furnace options

Thinking of replacing my bedroom furnace in my 1992 AS LY motorhome. The problem I'm finding is that the direct replacement Atwood 8516 furnace is no longer available.

The current replacement seems to have the ducts routed out from different directions than the older version. My furnace used two duct openings on the top right but the newer version doesn't have those openings. The ductwork in the MH is routed through one of the closets with the furnace located below it. The only way to access the furnace outlets for the bedroom ducts is through the top right side facing the unit from the outside.

Really don't want to have to pull the entire closet just to reroute the duct work.

Oh, the kitchen is on the duct work side and the shower is on the opposite side with the closet in between and the furnace underneath. Seems like two ducts exit the top of the furnace and is routed alone that side and then along the back through a carpeted channel in the closet before it goes behind the shower and eventually exits at the other side of the shower in the bedroom. Not so easy to get to all the duct work since the shower is one piece. It's a really tight fit on either side of the furnace. Seems like AS designed the space just for that furnace. Figures.

Any suggestions on what I could do?

You did not give your reasoning for pursuing a full replacement rather than doing a repair. Here is a link to a parts source which shows what is and is not available to perform a rebuild should you re-think your approach.

Damaged/rusted flame box. Not repairable.

I guess I'm out of luck on this. Can't find the original units any more and none of the newer units are the same form factor.

I'm seeing other similar units for sale online right now with duct outlets on the top of the box. Is there something particular about the size of yours that makes using one of the new replacement impossible?

Care to let me know what units you're looking at. I was specifically looking for the Atwood/Dometic units.

My main concern is having to not change the installation opening and having ducts in the proper orientation.

Can you post a photo of the current duct configuration? Possibly of the way it sits below the closet you're working around?

Have you checked to see if the floor of the closet can be removed? It might give you lots more access to work in the ducting.

Hard to know if what I'm seeing will fit your application without knowing how yours is setup specifically.
