installing a dual-temp and it's sitting up top like a square on a circle

Hi everybody, I'm a newbie here.
Just bought a '67 tradewind, and have been going through it.
having a couple issues installing the a/c:

I bought a used dual-temp unit because I had read online that opening sizes were universal. after drilling out the rivets on the front fan opening, scraping off all that tar-like adhesive, and lifting the unit up there, I was horrified to discover that the AC opening ( facing down, towards the trailer) was probably a good 2 inches wider than the opening of the trailer up towards the unit.

Also, the curvature of the airstream makes the AC unit look like it's precariously balanced up there, like a square on a circle- I don't know if this will be resolved once it's bolted on, or if the shroud will help- but right now, it just looks..... wrong.

So I'd love your advice as to if I need some kind of adapter mount, should I buy a new unit ( or just put the fan back in! ) - and then has anybody had to cut a larger opening to accomodate an A/C unit? I would really prefer not to...I'll post pictures later today. Thanks for your help!

welcome to the Forums...

Your year Airstream does have a more rounded roof profile. But, a standard AC with a 14 inch opening...like the fans, will mount OK. I have never heard of a Dual Temp AC. Is that a brand? Anyway, cutting a hole larger...side to side does not look like it will work on that early rounded roof. I'd set that AC on the ground and re evaluate. By the way, the inside of the roof is curved too. Think about that. Good luck.
