Furnace questions from newbie

My furnace won’t go on unless I am hooked up to shore power. Propane supply is fine and stove and oven work. Would welcome any thoughts or possible solutions.

Thanks.

The furnace needs 12 volts. Do your lights work without shore power? Do you have the USE/STORE switch in USE?

Are you sure it is not trying to start the heat pump? That would require shore power.

Your batteries may be so low that hey can't run the furnace. Can you measure voltage with and without shore power?

It does sound battery related. If the voltage drops significantly when you try to run the heater that points to either batteries that are shot or something like corroded battery terminals.

Our 2014 International checked out fine at the dealership when we did a walk through connected to power.

At home the batteries were dead and would no longer hold a charge. Replaced them and we lived happily every after.

Our 2006 Safari had AGM sealed batteries and 80 watt Solar. Batteries were fine at purchase and still running fine when we sold it in 2014.

If your dealer came over with a battery pack on a small dolly to demonstrate the interior lighting... Dead on Arrival.

Often the trailers sitting on a Dealer's Lot for months have already killed the batteries. Like the previous posts... if it works on power but not battery... problem solved.

No. No. No. Inverter has no connection to the furnace. Just the few inverter outlets like tv and dvd and maybe one more random one under the dinette (most models).

Picked our 2019 AS up in December and the batteries did need to be replaced. Our 2019 has a 6/18 manufactured date. No charge for that long does kill batteries.
Should be a warranty item. It was for us.

The furnace blower needs 120 volts, either thru shore power or generator (inverter powering the blower may work in some models). Call your dealer for details for your specific trailer.

Huh? Most Airstream trailer propane heaters run on 12 volts. If the air conditioner has a heat strip or is a heat pump, THAT does need 120 volt shore power or generator.

What Rich said. Your Flying Cloud's furnace blower does not need 120 VAC. It's a Suburban RV furnace that runs on 12 VDC.
