furnace and heat pump both on together
Well this is weird. Day 5 of our trip and turned on the furnace and the heat pump also turned on. We are connected to shore power and both units are in zone 2. I cannot separate the two unless I disconnect from shore power. Then the furnace works as usual. Ours is a 2015 Flying Cloud with many miles and while have the usual little problems we all have had, this is a new one.
Any thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Is the thermostat by chance not turned to AC only?

I “think” I had this issue a while back. Try putting the fan mode of the heat pump on “auto” for both zones and see if that fixes it.
I have 50 amp service on my RV with 2 zones. I had heard some people, when they only have 30Amp at the pedestal, will have 1 zone in AC mode and the other in just the fan mode. That way, only 1 zone will be using electricity and 30 Amps will power it. Since they both shard the same ductwork, the fan mode in the other zone will push through some cool air.
I was playing around doing this and trying with the fan being at speed 1,2 or 3 to see what works best. I forgot I changed the fan settings and I think my HVAC did what you are stating.
I looked it up in the Dometic manual, or somewhere, and I think this was the solution.
This would also explain why yours works correct when you are not on shore power as your Dometic unit will not work on just the batteries.
Let me know if this fixes it.

Clarification to the above;
Your current heat pump will only work on shore power with your current set up. So, when you are not on shore power the heat pump fan options are not in play. The zone 2 furnace option works on batteries and independent of the heat pump with no shore power. When on shore power I’m thinking your furnace is working and your heat pump fans are also on since they are not in the “auto” setting.

I'm with GOUSC especially as a start.

"Not a very high tech option but early on in our travels I discovered that if I adjusted the fan from auto to manual and then turned it off, when turning it on, the furnace would fire but the ac would turn on cold. A few contributors suggested I return fan to auto or reboot the stat. The latter worked perfectly. Instruction should be in the CC2 (or otherwise) instructions.
Worth a shot!"
Needless to say the fan has been set to on auto ever since!

You are correct regarding the fan speed setting in Zone 2. I have advised on this before in threads posted here. I'm pretty sure it was in the auto mode when the issue popped up.
We moved from Idaho to Utah on our way to Wyoming. When we arrived today and now the issue seems to have resolved itself Everything is working fine.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

Or, replace the Thermostat with a micro-air easytouch thermostat.
Works great and also provides remote monitoring and control capabilities.
This usually corrects idiosyncrasies in the original thermostat, lol (said tongue in cheek of course :-))

If your thermostat is the Dometic CCC-2 it has a program where as the temperature falls below a certain point, 35ish?, the furnace will kick on even though you don't have the furnace on at the thermostat. The heat pump can't supply enough heat at low temps.

Furnace runs in the fan auto mode. Heat pump runs in all fan modes.

With the 50 amp service zone two provides the furnace option. When hooked up to shore power the furnace also runs the fan on that ac unit to circulate the air better. The heat pump is not engaged, only the fan. Without shore power only the furnace runs. That’s normal.
