Filter on tac-110 a/c unit

Hi All,

Our 1966 Ambassador has the original Armstrong TAC-110 in it.
It still runs great !P.O. used it very little.
My question is on the filter;
The original filter is toast, completely dried out and hard as a saltine cracker. I removed it.
I've used the a/c unit for two summers without a filter. Is this a problem that could cause a problem ? Can I make one out of foam or another material ?
Are there aftermarket solutions ?

Thanks so much,
Dan

Look at the ‘permanent’ adjustable air filters at your local big box home improvement store.

Find one with foam in it. Cut to fit with scissors.

You don't want to run the a/c without a filter. Here's why:

The evaporator (cold) coil collects dirt; it's also wet as water condenses on the cold surface.

The combination of water and dirt makes mud. This will eventually build up and block the airflow; that can eventually damage your compressor.

Thanks guys.
I'm assuming 1/4" foam would work ? That seemed the thickness of the original filter.
