Duotherm thermostat

This morning when I left my house for work I passed by my trailer and heard the furnace fan running! It was 21 degrees outside.
I checked the Duotherm bi-metal thermostat and it was in the off position. I popped off the cover and found the bi-metalic spring contacts were together that control the furnace fan.
I popped the fuse at the 12v panel so the fan would stop and went on to work.
Is there a way to adjust the thermostat so that it does not do this again?

It should not allow itself to run when you have it pushed to the lowest setting. Was it all the way against the housing?

I pulled my spring one and installed a modern digital one, we love it, no twang!

It would sound like the off switch in the thermostat is defective. That should open up the circuit and even if the contacts were together, that component of the thermostat should be electrically dead....at least that's how it worked on my Atwood thermostat that was on my '01 Safari.

I went back out and took a closer look this evening with my multimeter to see how this thing works.
I found a small contactor that should have been apart when the lever is in the off position. It must have barely been in the on position or at least close enough to make the jump of a few thousands of an inch. I may have to spring for another one - the plastic lever may have just enough wear on it not to move the contactor far enough apart.
If I replace it I hope I can find the original spring type. I know the digitals are probably better but it is just one more item that needs batteries

Thanks for your comments.

Can you tell me what kind you got? Did it need any special work to replace the original, such as additional power or wiring? Thanks in advance!
