Ducted Air Register Removal

Anyone know how to get the vent covers off? I have the new operational and directional diffusers to install in their place but I can't get the old ones off. I will destroy them tomorrow if I can't find another way.

You have to work your fingers under a edge being careful not to bend the register. The register has little clips that hold it in place, the clips are made of plastic and if you can find one you can use a putty knife (preferably plastic so it wont scratch ) or something flat. We carry several of the plastic hotel "keys) that we use to open windows etc that would work. When you install the new vents look for the tabs and make sure that you get them firmly installed or the will fall out on a rough road (we learned the hard way). Good luck

Thanks Bob. That was my thought but they are really in there tight. I'll keep working them.

Funny, I have the opposite problem, the registers keep falling out and I'm about to glue them up there! They have 8 little plastic tabs holding them or not holding them in. If you get two or more of them loose I'm guessing they will come out pretty easily. A small screwdriver or better yet thin putty knife will do the trick. Failing that I'm guessing just pullilng hard will do it. What are the new ones like?

They were provided no cost from Airstream. I got them through my dealer, Colonial. The air over the bunk is just too much.

Some have used a heat gun to bend the tabs out a little more and give them a better bite.

Resolved.

So I ended up destroying the old registers to get them out. I must have had the ones that were beefed up after folks complained of them falling out. They were really fixed in good, no way to get them out otherwise. I had to push the screen in and unbend the tabs.
