We had to replace one of our units a couple of years ago on our 2015 flying cloud. Maybe it helps them make the case to sell more extended warranties

About 4 years ago one of the two Original Dometic A/C units on my 2004 - 34' classic bit the dirt. I had two Dometic Blizzard A/C's with heat pumps installed. So far they have been terrific. They are much quite then the Penguin II. I've got no idea why Airstream continues to use the old Penguin II technology.

Were modifications required to install the Blizzard or did it just bolt in where the Penguin II attached?

The Blizzard fits the existing roof opening. The blizzard installs using a dense foam gasket & tie-down bolts. You need to order the drain kit and have a couple drain tube fittings however the existing drain tube works fine. You will also need to install the correct thermostat regardless of having one or two A/C units. The biggest hassle is getting the old A/C off. Airstream basically glues the factory installed Penguin II onto the roof.

I went through 2 penguins in a month before getting a Coleman Mach. I added a condensation pump and it works great.
