Carrier Exiting?
I heard a rumor yesterday that Carrier will be exiting the RV air conditioner business about mid December (12/18/2009). While my source is generally reliable, I haven't found anything in a web search, and it's something I would think would be out there. Has anybody else heard this, and do you have further details? Speculation only feeds the rumor mill, but if you've seen anything like a notice from Carrier, it would be good to know. Many of us use Carrier as an aftermarket a/c for our coaches.

Anyone else build a low profile setup? If not I guess I need to reprioritize my purchases and figure out how to afford one of those before places run out of stock.

I am shopping for an airconditioner for my 27' 1973 Overlander. I have a 1976 Coleman on top (Stills blows some cool air). I want to upgrade with a 15,000 btu. I also want a heat strip. I was looking at Carrier but if they are going to discontinue RV airconditioners what happens in 6 to 7 years down the road if you need parts?
I really want to buy a good air conditioner that will last as long as my Coleman has. I am leaning toward the duo therm, but I just don't no.

Anyone know what the ideal size (BTU) would be for a 20ft '67 Globetrotter? Debating between 11K and 13.5K.. thoughts?

Unless you plan to stay in the shade all the time, 13.5K. If you get cold you can turn it off. If you get too hot with a little unit running full blast, you have no options.

Man this stinks! All the research I did showed they were the best units out there. I bought mine a year and a half ago and have been super pleased with it. Figures they'd stop making them....

If you think you might ever go camping where it's hot, like Southern California, you might consider a 15K unit.

Hey Overlander! Thanks for the heads-up tip on the Carrier RV a\c stopping production. I chased all the leads (thanks everybody) and confirmed you all are right. The Carrier corp. says they are honoring all warranty work on these (is there any?) for these final sales of Carrier RV A\C's.
I was in the market for one of these. I purchased a 15K for $425 plus $100 shipping. Good thing was this unit included the heat strip & the non-ducted lower assembly. I got the whole set up for $525 shipped. <grins>
Thanks to all you all for nudging me into getting this last piece of hardware for my 31 Sovereign. It's gonna be ... cool.

I found a site that has 15,000 btu carriers on sale for $389. I was ordering some things for my RV from an RV dealership who works on Airstream and they told me that the Carrier will not fit on the Airstream correctly. Something to do with a pan. They told me the only air conditioner for the Airstream was a Duro-Therm penguine.
I would like to order the carrier but not if it is going to fit correctly.

Brian.
Find another dealer, as that one is wrong, wrong and more wrong.
A Carrier fits just fine, "AND" does not need a drain pan.

Andy:
Your the man. I have already checked your RV place out on google earth. My son is in the entertainment business and wants to give it a shot in L.A.. I already told him he could take my Airstream out there. If he does make it out there I am going to have him check out Inland RV. I wish he would take a trip because that would give the excuse to buy another fixer upper. I so want to work on another one.
Thanks for your help

Great.
And besides, "ALL" of the snow around here, is way up in the mountains.
We can see it from our office, but don't have to drive in it, or shovel it.
I had my fill of snow shoveling, in Buffalo New York, a few moons ago. Well, maybe a large number of moons ago.
