I have a 1989 345le motorhome. I took the a/c power cord that goes from the generator to the rear ac , and installed a a/c connector (both male and female connectors ) that way you can unplug the connector and plug in a/c shore power. I run both the front and rear ac units at the same. Hope this answers your question.

The Danhard systems used in ambulances are the only split systems I've heard of that might be applicable to an Airstream. They are, essentially, an automotive A/C system with a 120 volt compressor. I believe some of them are set up with two compressors so they can be driven either by the engine or by shore power.

Do you have a name and model? I have only seen split units for houses being able to use wall space instead of window for cooling unit, they use 120 or 240 AC.

Also, the 9 1/2" tall Dometic (Duo-Therm/Penguin) topmount AC is a minimal intrusion to the roofline of your Airstream. It only sticks out about 6" forward of the vent, and about 22" towards the rear.

Check out SmokelessJoe's work on his Argosy, starting at post 110 for the split AC stuff. It picks back up with the inside part of the unit at post 154.

In reality, you want to check out this entire thread. The work and ideas are outstanding!
