Thanks for this, Those pieces of foam are all but useless. I just ordered up the same intake and some 8x14x1 filters.

Problem with Amazon Calimaero WSGG 5" Inch vents

I decided to go ahead and do the mods and ordered the Calimaero WSGG 5" Inch vents from Amazon. Unfortunately the ones they delivered are nothing like the cast aluminum ones shown in the description. These are steel stamped with a number on the outer rim and similar to the original restrictive AS louvers.

I spoke to Amazon Customer Service who acknowledged this has been previously reported. They are opening a case with the 3rd Party supplier and I should not reorder. Bummer! Now I have to find something similar from a different vendor.

AC flow issue

We have a 25’ FCFB 2017 with a single unit. It was dramatically failing to cool. I replaced the air intake filters with a more porous filter and replaced the ceiling outflow vents with an inexpensive easily installed aftermarket cover which is fully adjustable and problem solved. JC is well aware of the enduring extent of this problem. Two AC units is a poor solution as one loses a ceiling fan and requires 50 amp, plus must maintain two devices. I do not have the labels from the replacement covers, but ordered them via EJ’s RV which is at 417-256-8444 in West Plains, Mo. Tell them “the ones Jack ordered for his Airstream”. Incidentally, their shop is quite competent with Airstream repair. I have no financial interest in the business, just have long used them. You are welcome to communicate with me at rjackgar@hotmail.com. Your problem is EASILY solved.

I think I'm one of the previous reporters to Amazon.

I have the lower one in the photo. It works. Not particularly pretty. I removed the screen insert.

And of course, I also have the upper one in the photo.

After spending so much time on water leaks, I'm just now able to move on and begin losing sleep while thinking about a more permanent and attractive solution to the vent covers.

I have a 2018 Serenity 28RBQ with ducted dual AC’s.. So 3 feet shorter than your 30 footer. We have camped in Florida in high humidity and 104 F temps for weeks at a time. No problem holding 72F and refrigerator at 34 F.

Hi

There are two things that can keep you cool. One is air temperature the other is air motion. The typical center of the aisle A/C in a trailer both cools the air and (if you are in the right place) blasts you with fast moving air.

If you are after the cooling from fast moving air, a small fan is the ideal solution. You can place it where you need it. There's no moving here / moving there to catch the blast. It also does not cycle on and off the way the A/C fan typically does.

I posted this before, but for those looking to upgrade their Airstream air conditioning by replacing the duct covers, here is a link to my project:

Found a replacement to calimaero vents

After searching Amazon for an alternative to the calimaero vents that didn’t match the description (see my post #202 above) I found one.

These are less expensive and come with pre-drilled holes on the sides which makes it easy to enlarge to the right size. I selected the ones with the fly screen which get removed anyway.

I’m satisfied with this one!

MangiaMangia, I ordered those vents from Amazon but the reseller substituted them with bright stamped metal ones. Amazon said don’t reorder the same ones and opened a case to investigate with the 3rd party reseller.

flawed ducts / registers

Rather than leave the registers completely out, I removed the inner restrictive air directing portion. Remounted the covers and the system works great. Found that when I am in a hot area, we keep the AC on low to prevent the interior from heating up and then have to cool down a hot interior.
Have read about some folks even having enough battery and solar to keep it running when traveling down the road.
