Air con confusion

Hello,

I have two air con units, and can't figure out why the unit in our bedroom does not send out cool air. I'm assuming the front and back unit are not interlinked at the thermostat. If I turn on zone 1 to auto or cool, the cool air comes out of all the vents. If I turn on zone 2 to auto or cool, ambient air comes out of the rear vents. Any ideas why the back unit is not pumping cool air? Also, the rear zone 2 unit has an option to choose heat pump. Zone 1 does not give me this option.. So weird.

Try turning on back unit first. It may be front unit has brought down the temp to the setting on the back unit so the compressor will not start until temp is above thermostat setting. Good luck.

Yes only turn on the rear unit. Set the thermostat very low and wait 3 to 5 minutes. if the compressor has not come on in that time you have a problem.

If the fan is running the unit has power. If the compressor did not come on it could be in order of cost. bad thermostat, bad control board in the unit, bad starter capacitor or dead compressor. If you take it for service make them check those items in order and not just say you need a new unit.

Awning Pack Install? Dealer or JC?

I wouldn't mind having the awning package installed. Is something a dealer can do, or something you should really let JC do? Not sure how involved the install is?

If your compressor is active and you're not getting cold air (18-22ºF below the ambient room temperature measured AT THE AIR RETURN GRILL, then your A/C has lost it's refrigerant and must be replaced.

Dometic units carry a factory 2 or 3 year warranty, and any Airstream dealer can replace the unit under either the Dometic warranty or the Airstream warranty. I would be wary of having any other Dometic warranty center deal with the replacement, as they will not be familiar with the nuances of working on an Airstream.
