ACs Turn Themselves on
Hi. We’ve had our 2023 30’ classic since late July. Had her out a couple times.
After we got home this trip, we had her parked in the driveway, plugged in to 50 amp, in AWAY mode, windows all open and both ACs turned to OFF. Mysteriously, I hear the AC running. We both kind of thought the other either failed to actually turn them off or forgot that we’d turned them back on. You know how that is….
Today went to the storage garage to check on her because Hubs had failed to select Battery Disconnect. As a side…. Last month the breaker (15amp only) had tripped thru the whole storage garage and we wondered if perhaps we were the culprit as we’d heard the Classics can be battery, power hogs. We only had a small dehumidifier plugged in, which was never a problem with our 25’ globetrotter. But now we’re wondering…because today lo and behold both ACs were no longer OFF, they were in cool mode and the front one was actually running!! On 15 amp. It does have a soft start. How in the world are they turning themselves on?
We have the Coleman ACs. I’ve read on here that their pumps can’t keep up and believe our rear one isn’t working at all……another issue, taking into service Thursday.
Can any of you tell us what each mode is preset to?
Do we have to select Battery Disconnect to avoid the ACs coming on or tripping a 15 amp breaker.
BTW hubby just found the link to all the manuals in the Hacking the CZone thread. So he’s deep in the reading. Salesman knew nothing and service manager little help with this so far.
Thanks, Debbie

When you store your unit do you completely turn off the thermostat? That’s really all I do. There is no way then the unit can come on.
And if you have it plugged in, the battery disconnect will not stop current to the trailer. That only works if you aren’t plugged in to shore power.
I have a 2017. I turn the switch to “in use” to charge the batteries when on shore power.

We don’t have thermostats. We have the love it or hate it CZone system. But yes we’re turning them off. Not just adjusting the temp or changing the function. Selecting the off button and they shut off. Until they come back on. It’s crazy I know.

Use the circuit breakers to turn the air conditioners off until you figure things out.

With all due respect to admin…..this really shouldn’t have been moved because the new(er) Classics use the CZone system which is completely different than having a normal thermostat. Pretty sure it’s something to do with that computerized management program that is causing this to happen.

Hi
I'd bet half a bottle of warm beer that there is a "schedule" turned on somewhere in the depths of the CZone menu insanity. It could be there from some accidental poke this or poke that sort of thing. There could be other reasons ( dealer did a demo and didn't shut it off .... ).

Any thought to someone hacking into your system and remotely turning on the AC units? As you know, the AC units can be controlled remotely.

it’s crazy, isn’t it. Looking at the app, there’s no “scheduled events” but yes we understand something could be buried deep. Been thru the entire Hacking the CZone thread and it’s overwhelming. Scott isn’t a programmer but definitely the more computer savvy of the two of us. We disconnected the battery and everything is sleeping now.
Taking it in for service in the morning to Foley RV as the rear AC pump isn’t working. We’ll mention it but I’m thinking this will be a new one on them too.

We probably had internet up and running when it happened here at the house but nothing on when it was in storage the second time. I did ask Scott if maybe he turned them on by messing with the app but he assures me he didn’t do it.

This is why I’m not a friend of technology and camping. KISS. Keep is Simple Stupid. It sounds wonderful, until it isn’t. And no one knows what the blazes is going on.
I’ll keep my simple thermostat. My simple stove. My simple furnace. etc etc.
Airstream needs to put more of an effort to make the simple things last and work well. it shouldn’t take a computer engineer to figure out a heating system.

Hi
The "simple thermostat" on my Classic has a schedule setup buried deep in th menus. I believe the same is true of the only thermostat available for the heater in the van.Neither one is integrated into some sort of "global control" setup.
