AC Installation Question
I have a '68 Safari that came with the AC Unit in the back window. I want to get rid of it and buy a new Carrier to put on the roof. I also will need to replace the back window. Is installing the AC on the roof easy? Like I said, there isn't one there now, so I just can pull the old one of and plug everything thats there in to the new unit. Thoughts?

Your trailer should be prewirred for an ac. Once you pull the vent you should have no problem locating the power cord. The hardest part to installing a roof air is getting it up on top of your Airstream with out damaging the unit. DYI has a video posted on youtube that should be of help to you. (Search airstream air conditioning).

Call Airstream and they should tell exactly where the wire is located, they did on my 1965 Caravel.

The bigger question is does Airstream preinstall the drain tube when they preinstall the AC cord. If you remove the vent you should be able to see the drain tube on the front drivers side of the opening if it is there.

Doesn`t the68 Safari only have 2 vents 1 front,1 back,is the hole even cut for the roof top AC?

some things...
Your '68 should be pre-wired and drain plumbed for roof air. The air conditioner does not go in the vent holes, but a hole needs to be cut in the roof with the front edge a factory-specified number of inches from rib "0". All my documents are buried right now, I'll try to find them over the next few days, but in the meantime if anybody else knows the spec, please post it.

My 65 Caravel was pre-wired for air but there was no drip tube and this is how I ran the drip tube...................toastie
