AC Cooling Fine However

The AC is cooling fine however when running it is making a whining noise inside the AS that I have not heard before. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it.

Thanks

if it is cooling and making a whining noise, I would suspect fan motor. try running just the fan and see if the noise still occurs. at least that will help you narrow down the problem.

Thank You

I did what you suggested and I do believe it is the fan making the noise. Do you have any suggestions on how to reduce the noise.

be sure to check all the intake and exhaust vents and that they are free and clear. remove the grates and check for loose objects

I know of 3 people that tried lubricating the fan bearings and had the fan motor seize and need to be replaced in under 2 weeks. Also know someone that has been putting up with the whining for 3 or 4 years. From this your 2 options seem to be put up with it or replace the fan motor.

URNMOR,
IF you are comfortable climbing on top of your airstream you can remove the shroud and check a few things on the fan. 1, turn off the air conditioner and kill power to it. Maybe unplug the trailer to make sure power is dead. 2nd make sure the 3 fan motor mounts are tight, many times the wellnuts loosen allowing the fan motor to shift slightly and letting the fan rotors touch the housings. There are a few youtube videos on this. spin the fan by hand and see if you can determine where the noise is coming from. Any dometic technician would also know where to look if you don't want to climb on the roof.

By the way, fan motors are about $250 and it takes about 30 minutes to change it out, 45 minutes with a coffee break!

Thank you I might remove the shroud and and check after looking at the videos and the weather clears up. If necessary I will replace the fan as a last option.
