A/C recommendations

Reluctantly considering adding a roof A/C unit to my 55 FC. I hate the way they look on vintage trailers but am beginning to think it may be the best solution. Anyone else done this on a 50's trailer?
What is the lowest profile unit currently available?
Will it fit in my existing vent opening?
I am guessing it is not pre-wired for AC power...
How do I handle the considensate?

Thanks in advance!

You may want to look up Kevin Katz here on the Forums and send him a PM. He has installed an A/C in his 1965 Caravel and might have some insight.

I know Kevin. 60's trailers are generally pre-wired and have standard 14" openings. Not sure the same is true for 50's trailers...

i am rebuilding a 48 Liner and it will receive a self contained Dometic Truck AC, which mounts inside one of the beds. Heat is discharged through a vent on the bottom and the cold air is plumbed to the top of the cabinet next to the bed.
I know those units are very expensive, but we did not want the look of an AC on the top of a Vintage camper....

i get it locally through our dometic rep that provides equipment for the company i work for. But there are several truck places, that sells it. check on dometic page for a retailer in your area :-)

Just curious, how are those truck units on noise level inside compared to a roof unit?

I've got an AC tech who's going to take a 15k btu window unit and convert it to a split unit with the condenser venting through the floor and the evaporator under the bed in the rear. Cool air will be ducted to a center trunk line on the ceiling.

What about roof mount a "modern" unit then make or have made, a metal cover to "replicate" the retro look?
