A/C Caput

The A/C in our 2001 AS Safari is shot. Our local dealer has a 13,5000 BTU, Coleman in stock and would need to order a Dometic Penguin which is what is in the coach now.
Does anybody have experience with Coleman? Opinions & advice needed.
Thanks all!

I don't have any experience with them but I use the reviews on Amazon to help me decide. I found a Coleman 13.5K BTU A/C there, only a few reviews and the only negative review was how loud it is. I think all of the roof mount A/Cs are loud. The other 3 reviews were positive.

I also found Coleman-Mach's RV A/C link, they say they've been making RV A/Cs for over 45 years. I assume a Coleman-Mach is the same company.

I would order the Penguin low profile, the slim profile just looks better in my opinion.

And, if you stay with the Penguin, you won't need to buy a control/vent panel for the inside.

While I was at it, i would up size it to 15K BTU.

Our 27' gets hot in the sun....

Regards,

JD

I installed a Penguin. I do like the look and it has been reliable other than an occasional freeze up. It is noisy. The consensus is a taller unit is quieter.

Changing brands of A/C will require a new inside air distribution box (ADB) as well as a new thermostat, unless you choose a unit that has integrated mechanical controls that are located on the ADB.

We just had ours changed out with a new domestic. Looks good but don't think its any quieter than the previous one. Cant imagine anything being louder.
