We'll be pulling the stove/oven (which is in nice condition) in our '87 Excella as we re-furb the interior, but it probably won't be until this coming Spring.

I saw a cool turquoise cooktop on ebay! Have you looked into craigslist and ebay?

Stove Oven available

Nicole and Larry:

I have not yet got around to listing everything that came out of my immaculate, one owner 1976 Argosy.

You can check my thread at:

The Magic Chef stove-oven looks hardly used at all and is available.

Stove/Oven in Seattle, WA

Hi,
My stove/oven combo came out of a 1966 Caravel. All knobs, racks and elements are intact.
Please PM for more info.

1977 Magic Chef / free in California

I have Buttercup's old 77 Overlander Magic Chef stove/ oven.
It's free to a good home. I can't ship it.
I'm in Alaska, it's located in Northern California.
I'll be in CA late November.

Speaking of Magic Chef ovens...

On Airylle's maiden voyage I discovered that the thermostat must not work because the oven just gets hotter and hotter. I got an oven thermometer to confirm this. I started cracking the oven door open with an oven mitt to maintain a temp around 350. Unfortunately, with the door cracked, the knobs melted. Anybody have any experience replacing the thermostat or have a line on just the knobs.

Another Magic Chef problem

Anyone else have trouble with galling valves? When the oven gets warm, or I use the front center burner (3-burner model, about 1999 vintage), the center burner valve freezes up. I assume because it's warm (I don't think it is very hot when this happens). Very dangerous and I get the run-around from the vendor.

Blu Hwy Lady,

Believe this qualifies as thread hijacking. Anyway, you can adjust the oven in your trailer to lower the temperature. About 100 degrees either way to keep the problem from happening. In the middle of the oven temp. knob (pull it off) is a small screw that can be turned to lower the temp. in your case. PM me if you need the instructions - they are in the 72 service manual if you have one.

The valves need to be disassembled and regreased, there is a special grease available just for gas valves. You can buy it thru any commercial cooking equiptment service agency's.

I'm having the same problem with my oven. (The stove top is fine) I tried to use it for the first time since we've owned it and found no control over the temp. At any temp setting the oven heated to 550* or more. The top edge of the oven door was so hot I nearly burned my arm. The burner/broiler near the bottom of the oven had a flame the size of Rhode Island spreading out from it.

The camper center says it needs a thermostat .... and the parts are no longer available from Magic Chef. (Cupcake is a 1975)

Now What??

Nicole and Larry, I was just in a place in Portland called Laurelhurst Heat and Air. 56th and SE Burnside. (503-236-2679) They had lots of 3 burner Magic Chefs and other brands. They also had one 4 burner Magic Chef in great condition, looked as if it had never been used. All are around $200.00. I was just looking for help cleaning mine up. The front shop guy didn't want to help because he wanted me to buy a new one, but one of the repairmen came out and was very helpful showing me how to remove the oven door. BTW, I will probably have to start a new thread about this soon, I was able to get the door halfway off with his instructions. Hope you find what you need. Pam
