Oven!
Our oven thermostat has been "out" for the better part of this camping season...I didn't think I used the oven very often, but not having it has been tough!
We too boondock alot and don't always have electric and don't want to haul around a generator.
Note to self...winter project, fix oven!

We only have the oven and the three burner cooktop. I haven't really figured out how to light the oven yet, and so we haven't used it. Pan storage sounds like a great idea though!
I'd probably use a microwave quite a bit, but we also camp without hookups a lot, so I guess we'll just have to figure out how to use that oven one of these days. So far we've cooked everything we need on the cooktop. Even at home we don't use the oven much.

There's no option in the poll for "BOTH".
|
I added "Convection Oven" and "Both Microwave & Oven" to the poll...
When I added the two new options the "Score" was:
Microwave = 6
Oven = 8
...for a point of reference.

Yeah, but those of us who have both and voted one or the other can't change the vote, can we?

If I bought an Airstream that did not have an oven, I would install one.
Last weekend, we used ours for chocolate chip cookies. Nice and warm and gooey.

Convection/Microwave!
Our 325 and now the 34' both had factory convection microwaves in them. Of course, the 325 ALSO had a 7.5kw Onan generator, so boondocking with a convection/microwave wasn't a problem!
We have and use a convection microwave at home, and as a matter of fact, just passed on our 13 year old Sharp with a bad and irreplaceable circuit board and bought the latest iteration of the same model. They are extraordinarily versatile. We use the convection part much more frequently than our regular oven for anything that you can bake that will fit inside.
As other posts have said, the only reason NOT to go that way would be if you boondock regularly without 110AC. Then, naturally, the propane oven would be the only choice.

Ovens, the only way
As confirmed boondockers, the old oven is sure great on those 20 degree mornings when its snowing. The solar panels only have to power that small oven light and the xtra warmth along with the catalitic heater is sure great. It really warms up those cold plates too. And in the evening the smell of chocolate bit cookies baking is indiscribable.

My vote is the convection/microwave..
Kimili.. love the convection/microwave you recommended.. how is the unit to clean??? We are definitely taking our oven and going with a two burner cooktop and the above .. boondocking and having no oven is not an issue with us as we use our barbacue.. .. .. Thanks .. Annie

I had a stove w/oven in my old SOB camper.
In the 8 or 9 years that I had it I never once used the oven.
In fact I didn't get around to seeing if the oven even worked untill I sold everything from the camper on Ebay.
The cook top I use a lot.
For the A/S I recently bought a small Microwave.
I use one a lot at home so it's nice to have one in the A/S.
I voted to forgo the oven and get the microwave.

I have a Microwave/Convection oven in my home and think it is the best thing since sliced bread. But it was quite pricey $780 .But well worth it!

It might be a stupid question but...just as they have refrigerators that work both on propane and electric....There must be a dual oven out there!!
Anyone know of it?
It would sure solve the boondocking problem.
Anyone here willing to invent one!?
PS
Annie,
My little AS/DeLonghi oven is a breeze to clean!

We just bought our current MH this summer. It came with an oven and we took it out. The convection/micro combination works great for us, and the cookies still come out warm and gooey.
