Magic Chef oven door

Does anyone know if I can paint the exterior side of my glass oven door (probably black) with a high temp. spray paint used for bar -b -ques or engines to hide the flaws to the interior part of the glass panel. The narrow white lines that run horizontally across the panel are missing in places and quite unsightly. Apparently the glass panel is no longer manufactured and I thought this might be a good quick fix. Any drawbacks to this idea? Any and all ideas welcome! Thanks Mike

I used POR-20 to redo the tray under the range and the top of the oven. It's good to 1400F.

On the other hand, a glass shop should be able to cut a replacement window for your Magic Chef. Just go to a junkyard or appliance recycler and grab an old oven window slightly larger than the one you need.

You can repaint the outside facing surface of the door, Mike. I've done it. The door comes off and comes apart pretty easily. IIRC the white lines might scrape off to provide a uniform look. Mine were OK and I just left them. It definitely makes an improvement!

Thanks Dallas--that's just what I wanted to hear. I didn't reallize I could scrape off the white lines. I think if I can do that I wouldn't even have to paint the outside of the glass. By the way,do you know what the lines are for? Just decoration? Thanks again Mike

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. If the painting comes out badly, plan B will be go to a glass shop and have one made. I'm keeping my finger crossed on plan A though. Mike

I think they are just decorative.
