Inexpensive oven replacement

I have been searching the web for the best price on a replacement oven for my '69 Caravel and it looks like the cheapest is around 350. Does anyone know of any deals or great sights for ovens?

I'm doing the same thing. It depends on what you want too; the Suburban ranges don't have variable burners on two of the three, just on off. Magic Chef and Atwood seem to. the other thing is match light vs pezio. I had a great deal on a brand new fridge, on Craig's list, from a crashed trailer, and I'm hoping to find the same thing with the range. Failing that, I've been looking at RV salvage, and failing that, maybe I can wrangle a new one. I tried to get the old one rebuilt, without much luck, and at some point the PIA quotient outweighs savings. I'd love an old range like the one we have, it baked well and looked good.

what about vintage?

i have an original oven from my 62 GT. It doesn't look like the oven part has ever been used. top's in good shape too. I kept it, but i don't know that we're going to use it. Hubby keeps wanting me to get rid of it...

I think vintage is awesome. I have the original to ours, and one I bought as a spare. I had someone make the two into one working one. There had been a gas leak, which was fixed, but then the oven didn't work- pegged the oven thermometer I was using to test, after wondering why it felt hotter than it should for 350 setting. If I can find a good vintage range, I'd go for it. The one down side I've found is that you can't get parts, so if something goes wrong, it's a pain and not simple to figure a work-around for.

Thanks. I ended up painting ours with appliance paint and with a little tweaking it appears to be working. Time will tell when we actually hit the road! My main reason for replacing was that it was ugly and didn't fit my decor.

If the color of the door is iffy, you might consider bead blasting and clear coat, for a metal finish? I cook a lot and am always dubious about paint in high heat situations. It's a bummer that all the new rv ranges available in the US are so, well, ugly. I fired up ours today in preparation for a trip south later in the week, and the (*) thing was kinda scary, one burner turned on but wouldn't turn off. Sheesh.
