Dometic Propane stove top.

Is anyone happy with the Dometic three burner stove top? This is the new top that has wire racks for each burner. Our signature 27 had the full porcelain grate.

The problem I have is that the pots will slide off the burners! Ok, yes we are level, but try to boil a large pot of water for pasta and as the rolling bubbles develop, the pot starts moving off the burner. Fortunately, it always seems to move toward the back. It's to the point that it may be dangerous if you don't watch. Frying pans are already too large for the burners, but give them a bump and they get off balance and tip.

Has anyone found a solution for this? I have purposely put a frying pan or two next to the pot to "wedge" it so it won't move. It is getting a bit ridiculous. I'm ready to add some steel weights to the top of the cooktop to add more support for the pans.

We use a portable induction cooktop for most things resting on the closed lid of the propane stone. These cost less than $100 but you might need to upgrade your inverter if you aren’t plugged in. Boils water twice as fast, simmers well, a breeze to clean.

We have an induction cooktop also. Your right, it will boil water very fast. It still does not solve the stove issue as we sometimes have 2 or three pots going at a time.

Did Dometic even test this thing??

Now I see. We were thinking of switching TO that cooktop from the one with the heavier grates and metal hood because of the flat top and auto ignition. Maybe not!

We’ve also thought about getting a double induction cooktop.

I use my All-Clad cookware (skillets and pots raided from our B&S kitchen) on the Dometic CU434 range in our GT. I have not had an issue with the stovetop using this cookware. In fact, I find that my 12” All-Clad skillet works great on the front burner. The long All-Clad handles are not an issue for me either. I also use a small cast-iron griddle on the front burner. Perhaps because my cookware has heavier bottoms I am not experiencing the issues you describe with the cooktop?

I use the stovetop and oven most every day as we travel full-time in our Globetrotter. If I’m not using the stovetop, then I am using my 3 QT mini InstantPot. BTW - I always cook inside - by choice as I find the range hood sufficient for venting moisture outside the coach.

We like our dometic CU-434 just fine. We don’t have issues with things sliding off.

We also use a little electric kettle for quick boiling of small quantities of water for tea, soup, etc...

It looks like you have a 5 gallon pot on that little stove - do you often cook spaghetti for 20 people? [emoji4] I can see why a pot that big could cause some problems with the weight of all that water.

We also were disappointed with the small wire grates on the Dometic stove in our 2019 Globetrotter. So I purchased a grate that was similar in size and modified it to fit.

I purchased the Suburban Delux Cooking Grate from RV Adventures (better picture on Amazon). The quality is not great, so, if you go this route, you may want to purchase two. I cut out the bars on the left and right, leaving the "feet", and then trimmed each foot by about 2 millimeters. I sanded the rough spots, used gloss black stove paint to spruce it up, and added rubber end caps to keep the feet from scratching the stove top. Finally, I ordered cabinet plug bumper stops to plug up the grommet holes to keep gunk from getting down inside the stove.

I will be interested to hear if anyone else has found a cast iron grate that works. Also, people rave about the Furrion stove found in other Airstream models; I'd be interested to see if anyone has swapped out their Dometic for a Furrion.

For those interested in the Dometic CU-434 stove top grate replacement this is where I found them. I read through the reviews and those that purchased them seem very happy. After trimming the "fingers" over each burner to be just outside of the burner head, notching one side for the screw heads as the other side can be slid in under the screws, I also ground bevels on the edges and feet to better fit the curvature of the stove on both side of the grates.

Really like these trailer grates. Note that I put stainless screws into the remaining rubber grommets from the original supports.

The second stove was a better job than the first.....

However, as you may have seen in some other threads, there is a cast iron option by Furrion. I found a set on line for $68, and eTrailer matched the price.

I found it to be an exact fit, but some folks indicated the need to grind out notches in the side where the sides bump up against screws. I can slide mine under the screws. Someone also mentioned rounding the feet to keep it from scratching the stove top - great idea. I also filled in the grommet holes from the original wire grates with stainless steel screws set in high temp silicon.

While the Suburban grate option worked fine, the cast iron grate is a much nicer option.

I took the plunge and bought the furion grate off eTrailer.... installed my new grate this evening. Zero clearance sliding it in under the screws. Really tight fit and scraped up the sides of the flange as it slid in. Oh well I guess. The scrapes are covered up by the grate itself, except for the very front of the flange.

Does anyone else have a super tight for with theirs? It’s actually going to be a bit of a PITA to slide out and clean.

My pans slide too! Of course I use the front burner the most, & I have found depending on my pan size, it will do better on a back burner. Sometimes I'm just not exactly centered on the burner to make it stay. My other problem beyond this is the ceramic coating of the grating is all cracked & will eventually fall off. It's even the second top I've had with the same problem- JC replaced the first under warranty. I'll have to put a new top on at some point. Never had this happen with previous rv's

Ours was tight. My hubby grinder a tiny bit and it is snug, but easy to lift off. At first it scratched the stainless steel a little which bothered me more than my hubby which is very unusual. He was confident the scratches could be polished out. The nice thing about it being snug is no shifting during travel. I’m just happy at feeling safer when cooking.
