Dometic CU-434 Issue

We have a 2016 International Serenity, 27', and in 2018 decided to upgrade our factory stove to the newly appearing Dometic CU 434 installed in the Classic models.

All went well for the first year until we noticed the front burner flame changing color from a clean blue to yellow which quickly spread throughout the burner flame set. When the burner was turned medium-low, we heard a "popping" sound and observed gas escaping from an apparent air vent below the main burners, lighting and then exploding in a pop of yellow flame. Within days, this problem intensified. When the flame was turned up a huge 6-8 inch high yellow mass of fire, emitting plumes of soot shot up, turning the underside of our pans black. This escalated into a fire hazard. At the same time, we noticed that when the oven was turned on, the front face plate of the stove housing the temperature controls would get so hot that we needed cloth insulation to manipulate them.

We drove to Jackson Center to have our stove replaced as it still had one year of warranty. Leaving with a replacement stove, we continued on our journeys, and now that a year has passed we are again experiencing the same popping, massive yellow flame ups as before, rendering the use of that primary burner impossible.

Here's the dilemma that you can assist us with solving: should we replace the stove a third time, wait another year for the same issue to recur, then every year get a new stove installed? Has anyone else seen or heard of these issues? This problem seems more than just coincidence.

We're looking into the Furrion stove as a possible replacement. The old, "Fool me once..." adage is in play.

Wooowww. I don't have an answer for you, but glad I read your post. I have a 2016 19' CB Flying Cloud and want to upgrade me Dometic over/range. It's done well, but the grate enamel is chipping off and I don't like the bifold lid cover. I've been seeking recommendations.

One thing you could do is contact Dometic. I've dealt with them in the past to convert warranties from one trailer to another and they were very responsive.

We gave up on the Dometic stove after two installs that failed, and installed the Furrion model. First week, so still in beta testing.

Wow! I am experiencing the same issue with my 2018 Dometic CA-35. I have replaced the ignition wires several times and after the last fire - I quit using the front burner.

I'm considering a new cooktop - what did you ultimately decide?

Hi. I posted about mine back in 2020. I didn't have any issues but grate enamel began to flake. I have since upgraded to the Furion oven with gas top with the glass cover, has the blue light rings around knobs. It has performed great, no issues. It was an easy change out by my Airstream service center.

Interesting. Last year I wanted to upgrade my stove and wanted a CU434. The local Campingworld rep said, it looks nice but I would tell you to get something else. At the time I was not too happy with that advice. I ended up with a suburban 3636A Elite. It works well.

Replace it with a Furrion. Dometic no longer makes parts for the CU 434. That is becoming a common theme with Dometic these days. Out of production and no parts available on appliances that are still under warranty.
