25RB, 28RB, 30RB recall for cooktop fire hazard

There is a new recall of some Airstream trailers. The title is "Stove Top Burner Flame May Enter Cabinet" and the NHTSA Recall ID Number is 21V345.

The recall notice says:

Potential Number of Units Affected 591
Summary
Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain 2020-2021 25RB Flying Cloud, 28RB Flying Cloud, 30RB Flying Cloud, 25RB International, 28RB International, and 30RB International trailers. The stove top range was incorrectly installed in a non-sealed cabinet.

Remedy
The remedy is still under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 11, 2021. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 ext. 7401 or 7411.

Thumbs up

Thank you for this excellent heads up. A new post in the Sticky Topic "Recalls" now points to this thread.

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f13...ml#post2496318

NHTSA's PDF gives the following details:
_______________________________________

"The stove top range was not installed in a non-sealed cabinet. The affected units have a furnace installed in an adjoining cabinet and when the furnace turns on, causes a potential for the stove top burner flame to invert due to a negative draft cause by being installed in a non-sealed cabinet.
. . .
If the stove top burner flame becomes inverted, this increases the risk of fire."

Not a trivial matter IMO . . . thanks again for the heads up.

Well that explains a lot. The first time we used the furnace on our 2021 FC25RB we had inverted flames on the cooktop and haven’t used it since. I was fumbling my way through troubleshooting the furnace and we’ve been able to stay comfortable on the heat pump.

Thanks for posting this important safety info.

Thanks for posting, glad you saw it, and that you are able to use your cooktop now!

Please spread the word to any fellow 25'-footers.

I have a 2020 25-RB Flying Cloud with the Furrion Stove Top. Our VIN is before the low VIN listed. However, reading the recall notice it states they didn’t use the Furrion Stove Top Prior to the submitted VIN. So, how is it my 2020 25-RB Flying Cloud has a Furrion Stove Top, and shouldn’t it be part of the recall?

Just curious, and a little worried.

Thanks

There are two other recalls out there as well.

1. Spare tire carrier can separate from trailer while moving and drop down casusing untold damage to the trailer etc.

2. The Demco hitch lock was welded incorrectly on some units and the trailer should NOT be towed. On this one the notice said owners should be called.

I am on hold with the factory now trying to find out if ours has been recalled as we are supposed to leave for International.

Recall Stove Top

I talked to JC and was told the hitch issue is prior to March of 2020 as is the spare tire issue and in either case owners should have already gotten letters.

The stove issue is the manufacturer of the stove sent a different unsealed unit and did not notify JC of the change. JC discovered it after about 600 units were sent out. If your's is involved you should get a letter next week. The issue is a back draft created when the furnace kicks on and potntially pulls the flame down from the stove, if it's on, and thereby putting flame into the cabinet under the stove. I am going to our trailer today and put a temporary "seal" on it and make an appointment to get the factory corrective action done.

What kind of temporary seal would be suitable for this? We received the recall notice and Airstream doesn't have the parts to make the correction before we leave on our vacation next week.

A bit of a troubling thread here. I'm curious if this issue was fully remedied for all those effected.

The cooktop is not the range model. Some Airstreams have the Stove/oven and that is sealed.
