Question Whats the problem getting the Dometic recall done on an Airstream?

Have been to several RV stores here in the Buffalo area, none of which are an AS dealer. The impression I get is they are not very anxious to tackle our rig. One, Camping World, would not even let us review the instruction booklet. As far as I can tell the access doors through which the recall is done is about the same size on most trls. Buffalo RV said they may even have to remove the fridge to complete the job. Not a pleasent thought by any means!! Has anyone had the same problem? Our selling dealer, Shining Time RV in Darien Center N.Y. is literally a mom and pop operation, and has allready dropped the ball on several warranty repairs, so they are out of the loop compleatly.HELP!!!!!!

just how far are your from the factory in Jackson Center? I would call the factory and talkto Chris Burch to set up an appointment. 937-596-6111
If you cannot get to the factory call the same number and ask for tech support. I would not a non AS dealer touch my trailer. They an screw it up soooo easily.

Just read threads about Airstream dealer techs denting panels. What follows is "I didn't know it would do that" and a mix of 'make it right' pledges that fall short of panel replacement. Michelle's got it right -- go to a qualified Airstream dealer (sorry about your experience) or else back to the factory.

Back To The Factory??

What does that say about our dealers if we must constantly go back to the Factory? JC did do a great job when we had the fridge replaced on our "63" Safari, but it just don't seem right that we can't find a qualified shop within a 100 miles of Buffalo.

hi rc'

yep many rv shops are reluctant to work on a/s because of the tight spaces and...

well, a/s owners have a reputation

any dometic dealer should be able to do the recall the issue is the allowable charge for the work...

lets say dometic allows a '1 hour charge' but the shop really needs 2 hours to do the work.

check out the dometic website for other nearby service shops.

and you might try 2 tie the work to some other 'paid' item like brake or bearing service...

as for taking it to jackson center....forget that nonsense for this issue.

besides SERVICE at the j/c center has declined greatly in the last year....

i spent a week there recently and the service was pitiful!

as a 28 year owner of a/s products i was embarr-assed by the experience.

lies about work not done,
misrepresentation by leadership,
work done incorrectly,
other work done so poorly i could have done it better...
screws in rivet holes, yes you read that correctly.

i've had around 12-14 days of service there and 2 years ago it was very good, but it should be.

last year they broke or damaged as many things as they fixed...

in fact that visit was followed by a 3 day visit just to fix things they broke, of course i paid for the fuel/travel.

this time i was left with the distinct impression the service center is circling the drain...

cheers
2air'

seems i'm not the only one to notice this change...

Thumbs up Pre-thor Repairs At J.c.

Boy I'm getting more and more worried!!!
The fridge replacement was done long before the quality decline. Our experience was nothing but great. Even though the Factory was very busy....(remember the "Bismarks"... from the N.D. Rally)... they did a great job!!! But it sure appears from all the negative post's things have really declined. All I know is QC on our 2003 was all but non-existant, but that's another story compleatly!! All I want is to get this recall behind me.

I just got back, literally about 30 minutes ago from taking the Safari to an SOB dealer. It was Kramer's Kampers in Zion, IL. They were extremely friendly, got the job done in what seemed like 30 minutes.

No scratches, dings, or otherwise. Unit so far is working.

I took a look at the unit after the work was done and can see the sheetmetal they put in...also looks like they replaced the control module on the left.

I have to say, I'm not positive what they all did, but unless there is a circuit trip that shuts down the LP feed due to low pressure in the ammonia system, I can't see how that sheetmetal they put in is gonna stop a gas leak by itself from becoming more than one would want to see. But hey, it's finally done....I waited nearly 7 months for my turn to come.......very happy that I didn't run into any issue this past season.

I took my 2000 Gas Land Yacht into the local SOB dealer and had the recall done without any problems. They also did some work on my 2002 25 Safari. They do good work, and short of panel replacement, I will continue to have them do my work. Find a local dealer with a good service reputation and go there.
