what kind of frig to get? HELP!

Our 1970 Land yacht did not come with the original refrigerator..It has a big house type frig...so where do I go about getting the right kind of refrigerator? Anyone? Thanks

Measure the size of the opening and go to dometics website and find which unit is best. I think the consensus is to get a propane/elect rather than a 3 way that runs 12v as well. Good luck.

Happydaze, we run with an apartment fridge in our 31 footer. I like it. Since most of our Airstreaming involves CG's with electric, it is no problem. If no electric, we fire up the Honda EU2000. At only 1.9 amps draw, I usually keep it plugged in at home, with a stock of liquid refreshments.

I agree with what Pick says - This evening I will remove the Dometic from the trailer and am currently looking for a conventional compressor refrigerator that is 24" wide and 54" tall - the newer conventionals are efficient, light, and cool immediatly upon receivein 120volts.

we mostly camp at the beach...no electric so wouldn't it be better to get one that runs without a generator? Should I get a 2way or a 3way? confused

If your primary use for the trailer is boondocking by all means go with the two way.

Most of us with the 3 way agree that the best the fridge will do on 12 volts is to maintain temp - you only need 12 volt cooling when actually in motion.

The circuitry for a 12 volt (three way) is more complicated, and the initial purchase is definitely more expensive - if you absolutely need a LPG refrigerator then go with the two way.

Actually, if you're camping at an area with ice sales, a couple of bags of ice in the bottom of the refrigerator will keep everything cool for a couple of days. You may want to delay the purchase of a new unit until you have a good handle on just how you actually use the trailer. I say that because our "camping" activities have evolved quite a bit in the past few years.

I was thinking that running a generator all day just to have the frig on would be annoying...Aren't generators loud?...of course we do have to run it for the AC..it does get hot in San Diego in July...so what is a good generator? Are there ones that are more quiet?

The Honda EU series is very quiet. I can run mine in the "Eco" mode, in the back of the pickup, and you hardly know it's there, purs like a kitten. Set it behind the trailer, and you have walk behind to see if it's still there. Other folks on the forum have/like the new Yamaha gen set, which is available to run on propane and gasoline.

A good Coleman ice chest will keep stuff cold for 3 or more days, and costs less than $50.
