hi folks, just wondering if there's a short list of simple things to check on these older fridges. It works on LP, just ..keeps the interior at 39 quite easily if trailer is in shade most of the day or not too hot. Last trip in Nevada City, it was close to 95 most days but were shaded. But can't get this fridge to run on electricity. Would some tips on troubleshooting. Thanks
From my recent experience, it's likely your heating element. I've got a 72 Overlander with the Dometic RM77 which had the same problem. You can test if your element is getting power (should be 110vac) by testing for AC power between the two wires going to the heating element. If you see 110vac, going to the element when the fridge is on, replace the element. You can access the element by sliding the metal cover (about 1.5 inches wide by 5 inches long above the burner) up and out of the way. move some of the insulation around until you find the top of the metal element. It's got two wires sticking out of the top of it. there's a small metal clip you need to push back and away, then simply slide the element out. The element is a 4 inch? long metal tube. Cut or unplug the wires outside of the heater box and replace it with a new one.
I did this and boom! Electric fridge functionality.
