Replacing Dometic RM8505 fridge

The Dometic RM8505 fridge stopped working on propane in my trailer. I traced problem to gas solenoid not opening as control module not sending 12v to it, under 2v to solenoid. Control module not available anymore through Dometic and no replacement from Dinosaur electronics. I inadvertently purchased Dometic NRX 115c, 12v/24v from Amazon instead of ac/dc model. Description on Amazon didn’t mention unit was 12v/24v. If I keep it and install it, as it will fit exactly in opening, will I have any issues when towing running off the battery? I have a lead acid battery and no solar as we don’t boondock.

I'm no expert on this unit but if you are towing with a 7 pin cable and have especially if you have a dc/dc converter you should be fine as the TV will provide plenty of power while under way. As soon as you plug in the converter will take over. For a few hours if neither is charging the batteries will be ok. It's going to depend on what battery capacity you have. Be sure the TV charger disconnects automatically when you shut down.

There really is not much of a practical difference between the ac/dc model and the 12v/24v model since they both require power from the batteries to operate them as I don't believe there is any propane.

When you're plugged into a campground it won't matter that you're running off the battery, since the charger/converter can easily handle the extra load.

If you find that the tow vehicle can't keep up with the load you could always upgrade from the 7-pin charging to a DC-to-DC charger, but I think that your 7-pin should be able to keep up with the fridge without a problem.
