Refrigerator fan running continuously

I have model RM2351 refrigerator in my 2016 Sport. When in propane mode the fridge fan runs continuously (never shuts off). When in electric mode it runs intermittently. Is this normal? Thanks
Bill

We have found that by keeping the fridge side in some shade, and propping open the fridge vent hatch(s) the fan very rarely runs. We also replaced the noisy original with a computer-style fan so when it runs, we never hear it.

Yeah it's kinda sorta normal. Ours never shuts off regardless of whether it's on propane or electric. What's normal is this: It's annoying! That's why so many have replaced the fan with a quieter one. There's an extensive thread on that very topic but I'm too lazy to find and provide the link to it.

Have a on/off switch installed. Airstream had my dealer mount a lighted red rocker switch on an interior wall. It allowed us to turn it off at night and when we wanted quiet time.

Echoing earlier comments. We turn ours off at night, and prop open the upper exterior louvered ventilation door when possible.

My 2016 FC 19 came with an on/off switch for the refer fan so I was surprised to learn that some don't. And I've never heard the fan even though I always leave the switch on. Now I guess I should check and see if the fan is broken.

You might want to check out this thread:

for other possibilities like inline fuse out, etc..

Cheers,

Peter

ARP Module

You might want to look into the ARP module. see https://www.arprv.com/

I had one installed on my Excella (without the fan - version 2; the fan model is version 3) after meeting Paul and Mao at the Escapade in Tucson last month.

I plan to replace ours with one of the quieter pc fans. In the meantime, in addition to the other tips in this thread, I installed a 1/2" wide strip of closed cell foam (camping mat blue pad type stuff) between the fan and the metal frame. This is the "before" photo, but I cannot find the " after" photo at the moment. But you get the picture. This no-cost 30-minute job reduced the noise considerably.

Because ventilation is important to the mechanics and cooling system, I would be wary of turning the fan off or disconnecting it.

boocanoe, the refer will run hotter on propane vs AC and as such the fan will run more often/longer.

Probably N/A but you might also check the stat button on the fins

Like Peter I always prop up the top opening and it usually turns off in a few minutes. New fan = quiet, almost not even noticeable. Best $20 bucks I ever spent on the TT. I never have to turn the fan off.

Here is the mother of all threads re a LOT of different TT's and various fan/sheet metal engineering solutions.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f425...-11811-19.html

Just swap out the fan. Don't over think it, especially the need for sheet metal IMO for your unit. Older TT's with different designs obviously have benefited.

I bought a computer grade fan from Egghead for $11 (yellow blade) and I only needed a few spacers since the hole separation distance was the same, but the new fan was thinner. It also moves more air for less energy. It is almost dead silent. When it runs I can't hear it, and now I have to check occasionally to make sure it is still running. Nice at night though.

Yes this was the most annoying over night issue with our new FC25 so I replaced the grounchy bearing Rodale with two side by side very quiet computer fans that suck the air out and also made an aluminum shaped air shroud to draw air through the fins... see photo at

Same issue with our 2014 23D International Serenity. I never understood why the refrigerator fan ran constantly. We weren't camping enough for the matter to get me in the "I gotta figure this issue out." We traded the 2014 unit for a 2016 16' Sport for camping convenience issues such as using small state campgrounds for example. Don't recall fan issues with the new Sport but we'll find out soon. Not sure I'd like turning off a fan with a on/off switch as I'd figure "it" was running because it was required. No problem opening outside access point however. Love advice always.

I spent a lot of time looking for the Amazon order but apparently I did not get the fan(s) from Amazon. Maybe I got them from Egghead... since they were computer fans made by SilenX as the poster suggested, Mine were yellow and I store the trailer about 10 miles away but am headed that way soon. My unit is a 2004 Safari and perhaps Airstream is using something different, but the fan(s) I bought had the same exact mounting holes and all I had to do was take the old one out and put the new one in. I used the original mounting. Since they were fairly cheap, I had purchased two and had the second for a long time before I finally installed it to increase the air flow. These were so much better that I can't hear them when they do go on and use far less energy than the junk that Airstream put in.

Get the dimensions, but the other poster probably has the right data.
