Refrigerator Door Shelf Divider/Retainer
I'm referring to the little plastic piece that clips onto the refrigerator door shelves. It's supposed to keep whatever you have on the shelf from drifting forward/backward as you bounce down the road.
We have a Norcold N8DC and I travel with jars and bottles in the shelves. I have used plastic washers on the refrigerator door hinges to remove any vertical slop and have slightly modified the door latch to make sure the gap between the latch and freezer and refrigerator is minimal. No problems with the refrigerator door opening on gravel washboard roads, etc.
They only shipped one divider with our rig and it has part number 618166-2. They are no longer available.
Another part number that seems to be similar is 640161. They are no longer available.
I bought some plexiglass (or lexan) and tried to use a heat gun to make a wide "candy can" to mimic the shape of the factory clip. The top bend was way too brittle and broke off. Maybe I used too much heat.
Current thinking is using aluminum to make the wide "candy cane" and rivet a tab to it.
However, I'm currently on the road and using binder clips with bent pieced of cardboard. Amazing how well they work.
I know some don't travel with anything in the door and there was recently a thread on door locks.
For those who use the door shelves, what do you use?
Thanks, Steve

I looked online and found the same thing at Parts Warehouse but out of stock. I also saw a plastic clip that fits over the front of the bin that is supposed to keep things from sliding. I guess an object gets up against it causing the clip to bind which stops the object. That could be made on a 3D printer easy enough. Anyway, if a clip sliding over the front partition that gets in a bind when an object bumps up against it and stays put, then that seems like it would work. Good luck

After having the plastic door shelves in our Airstream's refrigerator break due to the containers on them bouncing up and down while driving, we now stuff it all into the refrigerator itself before driving off. Packing it in that way also keeps the containers from breaking or tipping over while underway. On stopping, everything goes back into the door shelves.

I have never considered this to be an issue? We run 60PSI in our 15" GYE's cold, and travel 8-10K miles each year with our 28' FCT AS. Never had any breakage issues with our fridge nor other issues, but recently we had the bottom shelve on the door come loose, so we glued it back and its fine now. We were carrying bottles of wine and also milk on that shelve; too much weight so we fixed it and now carry all the wine in the electric cooler. I have seen a lot of broken/messy things happen in friends AS's traveling with us, on the same roads. I believe, because they run their tires at 75-80psi cold.

Just a thought, this looks like the sort of thing that could be 3D printed. Here's a link to the 3D printing thread, maybe post there?

I was just thinking the same thing. That would be pretty easy to design and 3D print. I'd be willing to take a stab at it but we don't have a Norcold fridge to dimension and try out.

I use a 3D printed one that works great on my fridge.
