Angry HELP w/ refrigerator tonight!

I leave Friday am and I went to start my 'frige tonight and when I pulled on the "choke" ? and then pushed in the lighter, the choke cord broke!

Am I screwed, or is there an alternate procedure?

Thanks all.

Dan

not sure if your trailer fridg is same as my argosy moho, the mechinism that is actuated by the " choke " can be controlled from the back of the fridge

Hi Dan,

I know on my fridge you can open the access panel on the side, and see the choke, press it in with your finger and lite the burner through the little access hole. But my fridge is probably older than yours and might be different?

It appears I have some sheet metal and screws attached to the back of the unit when I open the access panel. I assume if I remove all of them, the choke will be staring right in front of me?....UGH!

The area that you are looking for is not covered on my 75 TW. On mine it is an up and down fitting with a redish color button sticking out the bottom. Pulling on the "choke" moves a lever that pushes the button up. The fitting with the button on the bottom also has the thermocouple on the top. Sometimes mine sticks and I need to help it a little.

the control should be in line with the propane line, presume it is very simalar to hot water heaters and gas furnaces. the "choke" position should be for getting the pilot lit and warm the thermal coupler. this is an assumption on my part, but its to dark to go fiddle with mine to say for certain

Dan,

Attached is a photo of the back of the Refer on my '77' Minuet. By the choke I assume you are speaking of the thermocouple by pass that allows you to light the pilot. The arrow added to the photo points to the valve overide. On my unit you would push up on the white plastic part while someone else pushed the striker. Good luck and be sure to keep your eyebows attached. Never had to do this, your milage may vary.

Add on edit: I guess you could also light using a match held through the pilot door directly to the right of the valve in the photo.

Dan, don't fret if this doesn't work. Safeway and others sell dryice. You can use the fridge as an icebox ... if you electric at your campsite, you can plug in and use it on electric too.

Also, if you have to buy a new/used one, RVMobile in Everett (they also have a website) will sell you a refurbed fridge for about 1/2 the price of a new one.

Good luck!

Fixed

Royce,

After removing the sheet metal, my unit was identical to yours. I simply pushed up on the red button and used a match lighter to light the pilot. I held the button for a bit and released, it stayed lit.

I buttoned it back up and need to fill the water and then we are off to the Ellensburg Rodeo.

fyi- it appears the cord simply snapped of the handle in the 'frige. I might try supper gluing when I get back or see if I can but a new cord...doubtfull?

Yeah-haw,

Dan

The moral is...
Stop "choking" what every it is, press the red buttom and light a fire?
