Fridge not working, freezer is working

Hi,
We have a 2012 Classic with a Dometic absorption refrigerator. The refrigerator portion of the appliance has stopped working but the freezer works fine. We have checked both fuzes in the motherboard and both work fine. Any ideas of what the problem may be before we shell out more than $2500 for a new refrigerator? Thank you in advance for your ideas.

Kevin

Any chance for actual temp readings? And are you using propane or AC power to cool. How long has it been on?

The boiler serves both units, one piece that’s where the heat exchange happens but from the back of the unit.

Two things you can check. Dollar bill test on door seals. Then use hand screwdriver to make sure fridge screws are tight to boiler assy creating cooling transfer path.

Any chance a large warm item has been placed in fridge? These do good job keeping stuff cold but not so strong at cooling down a warm pot of soup or case of drinks etc.

Gary

Hi Gary,
I'll try the dollar test - good idea. I thought the fridge wasn't working because my granddaughter kept opening the door and not shutting it tightly. However, when we got home and unplugged, we started it again on propane and again freezer worked but not the fridge. I'll also check the screws. I really don't want to have to replace it, but I know my camper is a 2012 and these things happen. I appreciate your reply. Thank you.

The loose screws is a long shot idea, but costs nothing. Darren show's the cooling unit R&R and you can see the physical contact required between the cooling unit and the fridge box to transfer heat out and cool in.

Unlikely but I'll ask...

Any fans blowing on the outside of the trailer that could be forcing warm air into the fridge via the drain tube?

Check the position of the thermister on the cooling fins. It might have been moved or pushed to a different position on the fins. Also check the settings on the fridge controls. Dometic also has a very good troubleshooting page on their site. If you have the manual for the fridge, check it out to find if you have everything correct.
