Freezer 10F, Refrigerator 55F: CURE

The Las Vegas Valley is a toasty 105F in the shade. In the Sun... get out the frying pan and eggs. It is HOT.

For those who live in the Cooler and Colder climates where 90 is HOT... and you are setting up the Airstream to get some relative cooler, fresh air to improve your Dometic cooling down. to temperature.. some lessons Nancy noticed when she does the Inside Setup. We begin to cool down the refrigerator several days in advance and begin to load the day before departing.

If you store the Airstream at a lot... tape the cover up... and it will work, as well. Did that in 2006 and 2007 at outdoor storage..

In the colder months around here... not an issue. We let the Dometic cool down several days on electricity and like today to the... Propane Conversion.

On electricity and in the RV Garage with an Air Temperature around 105F... I tape the outside Refrigerator Vent... Open. I use duct tape and just a four inch strip is all you need. Open and tape to the side of the trailer. Add a paper towel if you want to be safe with the metal frame vibrating in the wind alongside the aluminum siding. We have never had a problem... but who knows.

We do not have the 12volt single computer FAN / Snap Switch like our previous Airstreams, used with the Microwave on top. These Fans are a poor choice if you USE and DEPEND on your refrigerator to cool down. Ours, by choice at the Airstream Dealer... a ROOF VENT. No more of these fans and snap switches...

Tape the cover UP, which exposes the area the heat is produced.

Take a large garage fan and have it blowing at a 45 degree angle. Not into, but where any heat is blown away. The 2019 Dometic has excellent shielding and this does not affect the flame on Propane.

We have the RV Garage doors open enough to get a breeze through.

Refrigerator temperature down to 39F. Freezer 10F.

When Boondocking with the FAN SYSTEM. I propped the vent covers, BOTH, with small 3/8" x 3/8" x 12 inch wood props. They would blow out at times, but this worked VERY WELL. The Fans... do not get me excited about them. Let say your blowing into the vent is about as good.

Some electrically talented members add extra fans and have them working. They do not prop the covers UP. Prop the lower and the upper. Science predicts that heat rises and draws cooler air into the lower vent. OK... The Titanic also was non sinkable as the story goes...

We have ONLY the lower as our Dometic Vents from where the flame area is located. This works. The time it takes to read these last two sentences... your experiment can begin.

Refrigerator down to 37F. Nancy reduced the setting.

Much like the 30 foot Airstream Flawed Ducted AC, removing the ducts from the ceiling... and it fixed the Cooling Issue just posted... THIS may help some members, as well.

Experiment and try alternatives. Those who test the NEW Innovations... may do it in a climate or conditions that are no Waco,Texas or Boulder City, Nevada. There are some members who THINK outside the box... NOT IN THE BOX, like some that never try to improve something that does not... work. But criticize those who try... like GREASE uses.

I mounted 2, 12vdc, 4” computer fans To an aluminum frame and powered off the 12vdc at the refrigerator. Hang Blowing up where there is no “stress” on the cooling tubes.

Last year ours failed and was replaced at Mothership. The fans were relocated to top of the fridge blowing directly out the roof vent. They also put a temp bi-metal switch (Button switch) to activate the fans at 100 degrees. Same electrical power supply.

I can freeze the lower compartment on 101 day in Texas on Shore power. Better on propane, I guess the flue adds convection...
