Dometic RM100 tripping GFI

When I run my Dometic off of 110v through my garage outlet, it trips the GFI outlet. If I use a non-GFI outlet, the unit cools properly. Should this concern me? I have verified that the outlet the fridge plugs into is wired correctly. I have also verified that the wiring (white/black) is connected correctly to the unit. Any ideas of why this is happening?

it is very possible your heating element is shorted to the case of the fridge but still operating.

replacing the heating element may fix it, i would exchange your gfi first as they do wear out and get erronious trips.

if the problem continues i would change the heating element out next. they are about 30 dollars from most rv places and easy to change.

Hi, Thomas,

There seem to be two types of heating elements that have been used in RM-100s - the cartridge type and the pencil type. The cartridge type, according to pplmotorhomes, in no longer available.

I ordered the pencil type, and it was correct for my 1979 model. The part number there is

173720012

and I paid $44.84 for it. I had to get them to match it up by wattage, so maybe this will save you a little time.

Well, the power cord had a break in it. If you whiggled it just right (or actually wrong), the neutral would be open. I replaced the cord, and it is working perfectly. Thanks for the help.
