Dometic refrigerator on inverter power

Can I run a 2 way Dometic RM2551 120vAC / LP refrigerator off 1000 watt inverter power while towing and keep battery charged by tow vehicle? Still not warm and fuzzy about running on LP while towing.

The original Dometic in my '67 Overlander (don't know the model) has a plate stating it requires 235 watts to run on AC.

So you could definitely run my refrigerator with your inverter. You are probably okay, but look around your unit & see if you can find a similar plate.

Your real problem will be feeding the inverter. Your charge line is probably only rated for 20 amps dc. 235 watts takes about 19-1/2 amps. Although your inverter is up to the challenge, your charge line may not be.

I have tried that with my Prosine 3000 and I found that most of the power goes to the refer and the inverter which consumes 60 watts above what the refer demands. So there was really very little or no battery charging going on while in tow. I now use just propane or just shut the refer off at a rest area when I know we will be filling the diesel tank at the next stop.

Thanks for the input, I'll check out my referig amp draw. Sounds like I keep coming back to run it on propane and be careful.
