Old age? Blocked arteries?

Seriously, it could be that bits of the inner pipe that conducts the ammonia solution that cools the unit have rusted and broken off, and are floating around and lodging in parts they shouldn't.

Three things you can do:
  • "Burp" the refer by disconnecting it, securing the loose parts, and rolling it. Yes, turning it over, and allowing things to settle, one side at a time.
  • Buy a re-manufactured kit of all the innards that make it cool down, and install it. There are several manufacturers, people on here can give you their comments on that.
  • Replace the refer completely. Pricey, but the only long-term solution

Hopefully, others will post even better advice. But it's not an easy situation to get out of, IMHO.

Good luck!

ps: I moved your thread to the correct sub-forum for you

It sounds like you just don't quite have enough cooling for the current situation. The freezer should be much colder than 32F, so all of the heat transfer is being used by the freezer section.

Does it behave the same way on LP and 120v? And it is it set on the coldest setting for each fuel?

If it only has this problem on LP, you may need to clean the burner and/or check your LP pressure.

Try checking the vent stack for the refer for obstructions. If clear. Try putting a fan, even a portable one at the access hatch (hatch open of course) and see if the refer section will cool more. If so, you may have to install a 12 volt fan to push the hot air up the stack.

Just curious, by saying you tapped the ammonia, do you mean that you "burped" it (see post 2)?
