Dometic Fridge RECALL

Saw this in the new March issue of Equus Magazine and thought maybe someone here would need to know. They're voluntarily recalling some Dometic refrigerators.

The recall affects Dometic 2 door refrigertors manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. It says a serious problem resulting in a fire may occur in an exceptionally small fraction of Dometic 2 door refrigertaors, but to address that potential risk, please contact them immediately for more information.

So if you think you have one of these recalled Dometic refrigerators, you should call 1-888-446-5157. Additionally they provide a web address of:

I wonder if this is a new recall or is the one that was issued last year? The site really doesn't give you much info other than to input your model, serial number and a brief statement. I wish they would date these things.

I don't know anything about old recalls I just know this one was just in my new issue of Equus and I've not seen it before. At the bottom of the recall ad there's small numbers saying Recall 06E-076

I think this is probably the recall that was issued early last year. Dometic would have probably had two listed if this was something new.

Dometic is continuing to run ads in major publications so that all owners of these potentially recalled refrigerators has notice. A recall lasts FOREVER.

I was wondering the same thing, Jack. Responded to it last year, got the repair and hadn't seen another recall notice until recently...

So this thread looks like it started back in 2008 and here it is 2020 so why add to it now: we recently purchased a 2004 International and were having trouble with it periodically having the "check" light come on and no further refrigeration until we recycled the system (turned it off then on). I was deep in a Google search for what might be causing the problem when I came across the information about the recall and our unit did match the serial numbers of the recalled units. We found a repair location about 2 minutes from where the trailer is stored and asked them to look and see if it had ever had the recall kit installed - a call to Dometic by the repair guy found it still needed to be done. Amazingly he had the kit in stock and was able to install it a couple of days later at no cost to me. Now (knock on wood and spin 3 times to the left) the refer didn't fault at all on our latest outing so we may have taken care of that issue as well.
