Dometic fridge/freezer
Hi again folks,
What a week of learning. So I cleaned out the fridge and freezer and it smells fine now (1978 Sovereign International 31’). I finally hooked my unit up to shore electric (power cord), and as I’m cleaning, I notice the freezer is getting cool!
I didn’t know this was either electric and/or gas.
However…the fridge doesn’t seem any cooler yet. So I immediately closed the door and kept the electricity running. Will the fridge portion eventually turn on, or is that gas only? I’m new to this all, and I thank you all for your patience.

Hi
Close the fridge and freezer up. Let it run on shore power for 24 hours. Come back and see where it's at. If it's still not as cold as you might like, give it another day.
Welcome to the wonders of an absorption fridge.
Also understand that the older fridges really liked to be level to operate well.

Hi, do you know what the Thermostor is? In the refrigerator there are fins that hang down, and on one side there is an insulated probe gizmo that controls how cold the refrigerator gets. It nearly clips onto the end fin, and the higher it is placed, the colder the refrigerator part gets. If yours is just hanging loose you should try clipping it to a fin.

Excellent info, thank you! Will try clipping it further up the fins (hoping I have something there to clip)

Thanks all - good news, it has been 24 hours and the fridge is cold/cool and the freezer is freezing (literally, I put a bottle of water in and it’s frozen). The smell is completely gone, thank goodness.
Having just read the other past by Foiled Again, I’m going to investigate the clip and fin position.
Thank you all! So far, it’s looking like success. I’m going to keep it running another 24 hours to see how cold it can/will get.
Thanks again!
Dave

Update: I’m in the fridge now and still getting colder, which is a relief. However, I’m not finding the clip on the fin(s)? I’m not sure I know what a thermistor looks like.

Update 2: ok, googled it and found on the right side, under the fins, a two-pronged wish-bone piece. I’m assuming this is what this is? I’m not sure I understand how to get it closer to the fins…it is connected and then hangs underneath the fin block. I’m not sure I’m being as clear as I could.

Hi
If the fridge is working, the next step is to find a thermometer and see how well it's working. You would like the "fridge" section to stay below 42F with a load of goodies in the fridge. Some of us run down around 33F, that's probably a bit to cold.
If you put a load of warm beer ... errr beverages ... in the fridge it will warm up more than a bit. These beasts do *not* react quickly.

Thank you both, once again! I don’t see my thermistor yet, but I’ll keep looking this evening. More updates to come.
Honestly don’t know where I’d be without this forum and all of these great folks.
