Dometic Falling Apart
We have the smaller Dometic RM Series Fridge in our 22' Safari and it has been nothing but trouble. On only its third season we have had the sensor replaced, the board replaced, replaced the bottom shelf twice because it keeps breaking where it slids into the door, and the final insult, the top plastic hinge part on the door itself shattered and the door fell off while traveling.
Has anyone else been having these types of problems with their units or are we just special?
Rick

I have had problems with Dometic also. Purchased new Classic Ref. and it was missing the two little plastic plugs that cover the screw holes that fasten it at the top. Called coustmer service and was told I would have to pay $7.50 ea. + shipping. Not very coustmer oriented company. These parts would be over priced at .25 cents. Asked why they charged so much for them and was told because they could!

That isn't good news. Maybe you have been selected for special treatment. Given Dometic past success you would expect better from them.

Maybe this vendor has what you need for much less cash:
TAP-CAPS: Screw Covers for phillips, pozidriv and square drive countersunk screws.

Hey Gunny, how are ya doing Buddy? That is the big question right now, the unit does have a three year warranty and we are waiting to hear if the door is 'covered' or not! The previous problems with the probe and the board were repaired at JC under warranty but so many things wrong with it in such a short period of time. When we going to see you again? Probably will head down south in May.

Hey Rick,
Do you think the door may be popping open during travel? That could explain the broken plastic hinge thingy. We suffered from this problem for a few years (much spilled coffee creamer and wine, and I hate to lose wine). Leon came up with the perfect fix this year, I'll show it to you this weekend. Of course it only works on the two door Dometics. But you might be able to figure out something similar for your one door model.

No the door wasn't opening, it appears the connection and plastic housing broke during travel. When Sandi went to open the door the whole thing feel out of her hands and down because nothing was holding the top of the door to the frame any longer.

We have the same fridge (probably the same trailer) and have had a few problems, but I don't think any of them are Dometics fault. - The metal U at the top of the flue had popped off during transport.
- The fridge was not plugged into AC!
- The fuse popped in for the external fan.
The first two happened before we took possesion and the dealer should have caught it. The third happened recently. Anyway, good luck with yours.

Has anyone else had a problem with the Dometic freezer door being incredibly hard to open sometimes? It does not seem to matter if we close it gently or slam it, the door often requires a solid two-handed pull to open it.
Just curious.
Thanks!
