Dead Dometic

My refrigerator wasn't cooling below 50° Then I walked in and the dreaded ammonia smell........
Thought about pulling it out (which I hope it's not too difficult a job) and consider getting a new/rebuilt cooling unit from the Amish, but now I probably am leaning towards buying a new one
I believe I saw someone was able to buy factory seconds somewhere. does anyone have a source
Buying a new one will really take a bite out of my subsistence fund
Thanks for the help right now

Even though it seems you are set on a new one, I think you may want to reconsider. We rebuilt our Dometic RM2800 some 10 years ago in an afternoon. It has worked flawlessly ever since. We half-time so that is roughly 5 years of use. I have reasonable tool skills but am not by any means an expert.

If the box, doors, shelves are in good shape, you really aren't gaining anything with new except a new control board (which seem to have a high failure rate).

My 2 cents

We had the same thing happen to our Domectic in our 2005 25FB after about eight years. We were on a trip at the time and opted for a new unit. That was our best option under the circumstances.

Pretty sure it was RVCool. Can't find the receipt. It shipped from Pennsylvania.
