Here are a couple pictures showing the compressor and how I capped the propane. I ran the unit at setting 7, out of 7, since I left on Saturday and it started to freeze the refrigerator, so thats great. I put it on 3 overnight and that seems to be the ideal. I rarely hear the compressor running.
So far, so good - we are going on a 3-day trip this weekend and will not have hookups, and will likely use the furnace at night. I will have generator for daily recharging though. I'll let the group know how we fare!

I think you will be pleasantly surprised how little you need to recharge the batteries - at least for the fridge

No battery issues with our last trip. Usage was typical for that area, with cold nights requiring the heater at night. Fridge kept properly cold, and we are happy with the decision!

Love this project. I'm probably not brave enough to make the conversion, but this also argues well for swapping out the Demonic fridge for a Vitrifrigo or other danfoss-based fridge. Thanks!

You will find that the Vitrifrigo DP-2600i (available own both black finish and stainless) will be almost the perfect fit for the Dometic unit that comes with a 27. A 3/4" spacer on one vertical side and a 1"+ shim at the top and it's a prefect fit! Quick and easy.
Just did another one today! Stainless (Inox) version...........

Sorry, shot went horizontal on me. Perhaps one of the Mods can straighten it out. It still has the plastic wrap on the stainless doors.

Nice, thanks! Can't wait, but have to wait...until we do the big Lithium / Solar upgrade on Rocinante in a year or two so we have sufficient amp hours. Until then, we'll keep feeding the demon behind our fridge , bribing him with propane and electricity to keep the food cold.

Lewster - or anyone else who has worked with the Vitrifrigo. . .
I am looking at the DP150IBD4-S model from Vitrifrigo as its dimensions are nearly identical to the Dometic RM2551 from what I’ve been able to research.
The low resolution pictures of the Vitrifrigo I see on the web make it appear that there isn’t a trim piece along the bottom of the unit. Looks like there are a couple of metal rails that the unit sits on. With an LP gas refrigerator, I can certainly see why there is a need for no air penetration from the rear compartment area into the living quarters. With an all electric refrigerator, this seems irrelevant — but gotta make sure that LP gas line is capped good and not leaking.
Can anyone confirm if my observations are correct? Will there be a bit of an exposed gap at the bottom of the refrigerator giving access for ants and other critters to get into the living space? That’s where my concern lies more so than cosmetics.
I have wire screen across the two vent doors presently which is good enough to prevent mud daubers from causing problems. But the holes in the screen would not prevent ants or small roaches from entering. With a Vitrifrigo, I assume the vent doors can be more thoroughly (but not permanently) sealed.
Thanks for any thoughts/observations on this.

Hoonanea,
You should NOT get a trim piece for the bottom of the fridge. They are easily made from some wood or metal if you are worried about it, but I usually don't do this; leave the 3 sides of moulding around the fridge to do their job and don't worry about the bottom.

Finding a Vitrifrigo that Fits a 23D
I'm interested in hearing from anyone that has replaced the Dometic 2551 that ships with the International 23D with the Vitrifrigo DP150IBD4. I'm trying to figure out if the height of the Vitrifrigo will fit in the opening for the Dometic.
Information from the vendor's web site has me confused. I think the critical dimension that I need is misrepresented in their diagram. The dimensions for the red and yellow arrows appear to be reversed on the diagram for the DP150. The same dimensions on the DP2600 appear to be correct.
Dometic indicates a height opening of 42 ⅝". If I'm correct that the measurements are reversed in the Vitrifrigo diagram for the DP150, then I'd need an opening of 42 13/16" -- which leaves me short by 3/16". Aaarghh!
Somewhere on this forum I saw a picture from someone who has done this and a picture was posted. I saved the picture but neglected to note the thread in which it was posted. And now I can't find it. So if it's your picture below, I'm interested in hearing from you! :-)
I have not removed my Dometic refrigerator to get an exact measurement of the opening and with the refrigerator in place -- and only two hands -- it's difficult to get a measurement especially when the wiggle room is down to 3/16".
There appear to be "feet" on the bottom of the Vitrifrigo which makes up for ½" of the height. I'm wondering if these can be removed or if they are necessary to allow for air circulation around the bottom of the refrigerator.
Thoughts?

Hey, all. We're currently upgrading to Victron-driven solar / lithium / hybrid inverter at AM Solar. So, I want to be 100% clear on current model numbers for replacement of the Demonic fridge in our 27FB when we get sick of it.
Is this the current replacement unit? http://www.vitrifrigo.com/us/us/dp26...l-cooling-unit
Thank you!

I finally got around to doing this in a 23D — better late than never.

Looks fantastic! But I need to know where you got the thing in the picture!

I cannot discuss that particular product on the forum.
Vinnie’s Northbay Airstream might be able to provide you with some information.
