Coleman Thermoelectric Cooler

As anyone used a Coleman thermoelectric cooler in their AS? Looks like it runs on 12v so you could keep it running while on the road without lp.

I have used these in my truck and they work fairly well , although it takes a long time to cool down.
The big drawback of steady use it is draws about 4 amps.. The power provided by your charge line is not much more than this so you would not be doing much to charge your trailer batteries while driving.
When parked the 48 amp hour per day draw is unacceptable unless hooked to shore power

They don't work as good as a real fridge but they do work. A bag of ice works much better. I have one that is several years old and I think it is looseing its cool.

I have a thrmo electric (not Coleman) that I got from JCWhitney. It will either heat or cool. first time I used, I had the plug reversed and had hot ham sandwiches and hot bananas and soda. I now look carefully at the plug. It works great now and operates at about 40 degrees below ambient temp for cool and 20 above for heat. I have had it for 5 years now and like it. I have had it run for weeks at a time on AC; I bought a converter, otherwise it runs on DC.
Price about $80.00 and have saved more than that in ice.

I have one that I have used for a bunch of years. (Don't even remember when I got it) They work well for a 35 - 40* drop from ambient, so if it is in the 70s or low 80s they work really well. Above that, they are a good "pre-cooler" to then put your favorite beverages in the fridge without overloading it with warm stuff in hot weather.

True, ice works better, but over the years I bet I have paid for the electric cooler 20 or 30 times over, with saved ice $$$$. I'd buy another when this one konks out.

Ours is not Coleman, but we got one of these last summer and it works great as an adjunct refrigerator.

Also can be used in reverse, to keep things hot.

It does take some time to get cold, but so does the frig, and once cold keeps everything very well chilled.
