Adjust temperature of refrigerator

Is there a way of adjusting the temperature of the domestic rm2551 refrigerator. Presently it is freezing the eggs on the bottom shelf

Yes. There is a wire that is clipped to the cooling fins inside the refrigerator. If the top of that wire is higher up, the refrigerator will get colder. If you mount that wire lower, the refrigerator will be warmer. Just move the clip up or down until the refrigerator is at the temperature you desire. I adjusted the refrigerator temperature on both my 2017 FC25 and my 2018 27' Globetrotter with this method. The factory service tech showed me how to do this.

In addition to checking your AS owner's manual, and the Dometic manual that should be in your AS briefcase, assuming that you have the aforementioned clip on the fins at the top back of the fridge . . .

. . . and a handy mnemonic to remember, which way to slide it, is: "It is colder up north."

You should also keep a good quality thermometer in the fridge to monitor things. Some folks add a small battery operated fan inside the fridge to mix up the air. Maybe move the eggs up onto a middle shelf. Cold air sinks, so the very bottom of the fridge is the coldest. Also . . . the air that comes off the cooling fins is very cold, so don't store the eggs way up there.

For even cooling don't put anything warm in the fridge . . . pre-chill it first in an ice chest etc..

These refrigerators are so fickle.

It is definitely worth investing in a fan that sits at the bottom of the fridge to help circulate the air. I bought one of the cheap ones and it works well. i bought a more expensive on that clips onto the fins and now everything freezes!

It is a good idea to have a fridge thermometer so you know the temp of the fridge, the thermistor gives the temp of the fin it is attached too and that can be very different to the middle and bottom of the fridge.

There are battery-powered fans to circulate air within the fridge. I don't have one yet, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea.

We have one of those little fans. It helps a little, I guess. Hard to really say.

That is pretty much our experience. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn’t. Who knows?

I thought it helped significantly. As i said, the fin mounted fans seem to make it worse, the bottom of the fridge freezes now..

we keep a good quality round thermometer in both the freezer and fridge.
this way we know if something is going bad. they are not expensive

Remember if your adding fin mounted fans to improve air flow..well it does subsequently as stated adjusting the temperature of the fridge is needed especially if it is freezing everything...yes I have twin mounted fin fans plus fans mounted in the rear to evacuate hot air and yes the performance improved greatly and yes I had to readjust my Temperature.

You can also store the eggs on the door and place a fluffy dish towel over them. Refrigerator door shelves are generally warmer because of the close proximity to the outside! A towel helps to insulate the eggs from the colder refrigerator temperatures and retaining the 'warmer' (relatively speaking) shelf temperature.

My Dometic fridge has a white piece of plastic that attaches to the right side of the cooling fins. Slide it up to make it colder and down to make it warmer. Works like a champ. But, there is no wire attached to it. Just a white plastic clip.

Never heard about shifting the thermistor. Will try that.


I have a fan in the outer compartment. It works well. May add a second.


I plan to keep rear compartment air away from the side of the fridge. When inside the trailer, if one touches the side of the fridge, it is warm. I suspect hot, circulating air gets in behind the fridge and keeps it warm. Not efficient.


What kind of battery powered internal circulating fan do people use?
