'64 Dometic working on propane-Electric is iffy??

I recently had my '64 Dometic serviced at the local Amish propane appliance shop. They cleaned up the propane parts- orifice and other parts- and it fires well and cools, they say, to 30 degrees. I know the flint is toast...he says it is obsolete. Can a new flint unit be installed, or will I be relegated to the outside to light the fridge every time?

He did not test the electric workings of the refrigerator. He says there is a "glow plug" in the electric circuit kind of like a diesel motor would have. Can this go bad? Can it be replaced? I do want to level the refrigerator up and try it on electric.

I am thrilled it works on gas, but hope to get the electric reliable as well so that I can use the power at the campground when it is available.

My 66 Dometic has a rod with flints that can spin and light the gas.The rod can be opened and I loaded it with new zippo flints. When I had the frig completely out I went to replace the electric element and found that one of the wires had come loose.I did notrepair the electric while it was still in the trailer so I don't know how hard the repair would be.

If the element has power to it the chances are good the element is bad. It should be a job of removing the sheet metal covers to gain access to the element. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF.
You can locate the element by following the 2 wires. It will be located in a well (tube) above and to the side of the burner location. Most elements have the wattage rating stamped on the body of the unit. Armed with the model of the refer and the wattage of the element parts should be available on the Internet.
