1961 M50 Dometic-how to remove door?

I am likely not going to use this fridge-it is a bit too antiquated for me. I have it posted in the classifieds, and have some folks interested in parts. I would like to keep the main door. I love its vintage charm and art-deco look. I may repurpose it somehow.

The question is, how does one remove the main door on an M50? I have begun to take things apart (inner trim, etc.) to see if I can find the hinge mounting hardware. I cannot. Please share with me the secrets.

I am thinking the angle grinder might come in handy if I can't figure out how the Dometic magicians assembled this thing.

Can you remove what looks like a piece of wood behind the hinge side of the shell? From the photos it appears the hinges attach to the shell face, but outside the right side of the shell. Can't tell for sure from the photos. I'm thinking the hinges are bolted from the back side. The same may be for the door side of the hinges if you can easily remove the inner panel of the door without damaging it.

You might find calling Leon at National RV Refrigeration in Shipshewana, Indiana helpful. He does conversions on vintage RV frigs.

Is it possible the bottom part of the hinge is nothing more than a cap, that can be knocked-off, then just lift the door up and off the mounting portion of the hinge?

Good Luck,

Good Luck,
Winner...mostly. Your hunch that there was a cap was spot on. The hinge cap popped off and revealed the mounting screws which screwed into the superstructure from the front.

Pics to follow.

Hinge cover

Hinge cover removed to reveal screws holding the door to the superstructure.
