Back around 72 when i first started looking at Airstreams the tandem axle was an extra cost option on the Safari. Not sure about previous years

I'm not sure if it was standard or an option at the time of ordering, but our 1971 Safari has tandem axles.

Our Safari ads and info show it as an option in 1970. I have a single axle, just replaced with a new one, what a difference.

The price lists from the late 1960's don't include the tandem axel as an option on the Safari (see: Airstream, Inc :: Specs - 1960 )

I have a '72 with the tandem axel, but have not seen a price list for either '71 or '72. Here is a link to a 1973 price list listing showing the tandem axel as an option: http://service.airstream.com/files/l...d68658c5d9.pdf
