Brooklin ME. The wooden boat capital of America

Aspen CO. Don't consider living there but a nice place to visit

North Conway NH. Hike Mt Washington

Seneca Rocks WV. I used to be a rock climber. Now more of a glorified hiker.

Whitney Portal CA. The end of the John Muir Trail. Waterfalls, a nice swimming hole and scenery in the shadow of Mt Whitney.

Touloumne Meadows CA. Above Yosemite, less crowded but just as pretty.

I forgot to put down Savannah, Georgia. Love the old squares on every block, lined with the old Victorian houses. And yes good places to visit. I use to live in Los Angeles pop. 3.9 million, so any town under 20k is small to me. Some of the places mentioned I've never heard of but worth a visit. If you watch the Hallmark channel, I always wonder where are these places they film at? Canada? Very quaint towns where everybody knows you. Bar harbor, Maine is very pet friendly.

Cleveland, SC at the intersection of designated Scenic Hwy SC 11 and US Hwy 276 in the foothills. Excellent camping at Palmetto Cove RV Park (excellent rally park with 148 full hookups), Table Rock State Park , Solitude Point RV Park and others. Nearby are several good fishing rivers for fly and bait fishing, Short drives to Table Rock State Park, Jones Gap, Caesar's Head State Park with Lots of hiking trails, waterfalls and spectacular scenery. 20 minutes to great shopping in Greenville, SC.

We lived in Fredericksburg for 5+ years. Just moved out last year (to Georgetown, TX). Fredericksburg is a great little German town in the Texas Hill Country. Population just over 10,000. One of the BEST Main Streets ever. Gorgeous. Over 40 wineries in the surrounding countryside. There are 3 or 4 very nice RV parks in Fredericksburg...we've stayed in 2 of them: Lady Bird Johnson Municipal RV Park (http://www.fbgtx.org/343/Lady-Bird-Johnson-RV-Park) and Fredericksburg RV Park (http://fbgrvpark.com/). Oakwood RV Resort is also there (http://www.oakwoodrvresort.com/), but we haven't stayed there. We go back occassionally to visit friends and enjoy some good food and wine. Have a good time if you visit!

Cody, Wyoming. Get off the main drag and it is a pretty, little town with great public facilities, friendly people and very low crime.

My uncle, Roger Jensen fixed a big clock in Galena, Illinois with a $30 dollar electric motor. So the story goes. Another great place to visit is Peaks Island, Maine. A short ferry ride from Portland, this island has a 6 mile road around the perimeter. A Lot of people jog or bike this scenic loop.

The town here in PA isn't that wonderful (although downtown has some young people really bringing in good businesses)- but the area is fabulous.

Here are our top picks

Over the past two years of FT - these are some of our favorites in this category.

Salmon/North Fork, ID
Big Fork, Montana
East Glacier, MT
Cascade Locks, OR
Joseph, OR
Murphys, CA

all have great open space and vistas; towns are quaint and adorable, most have great fishing too.

The town where I already live: Lenoir City, TN. (Between the TN River and the Great Smoky Mountains!)

If I have to move then any of these other small towns in East Tennessee: Greeneville, Jonesboro, Townsend.

Next tier if TN has to be off of list: Greenville, SC; Grand Marais, MN; Highlands, NC.

Canadian small towns

[QUOTE=streaminwild;1884485]I was wondering, what are your favorite towns to visit? A town that is pleasing to the eye, and makes you say to yourself...I could live here.

I don't know many USA small towns but I do have a pretty good Canadian list .I tend to like historic buildings and small fishing ports.

Mahone Bay NS
Lunenburg NS
Peggy's Cove NS
Cheticamp NS
Bear River NS
St Andrews NB
Shediac NB
Caraquet NB
Perce Quebec
Cavendish PEI

Ithaca, NY. Two summers in a row we spent a week camping nearby while the kids were attending camp at Cornell, University. Beautiful area and lots to do in and around town.

Bandera, Texas, "Cowboy Capital of the World". We liked it so much we moved from Dallas 7 years ago, 856 population if you are a "townie". Otherwise, Port Aransas, TX....on the Texas gulf coast, and an annual trek.
