We stayed in Dubois WY. and drove to the grand Tetons, then stayed at the north gate and was very close to Yellowstone. When we were there we did drive through some of the camping areas to see what we were missing. I'm glad we made our choice to not stay in the Park. The sites we saw seemed very small and I don't think I could have navigated the road with our 25' safari. I'm sure there are other sites available that could accommodate more adventurous campers. Good luck, the park was great.
We camped with our Classic 33 in West Yellowstone at the KOA in 2019 in mid-June. The lines getting into the park every day were terrible - some days it took us 90 minutes to make our way into the park. We decided that the next visit we would camp in the park.
We have now changed from our Classic 33 to an Atlas (25 ft) - and have reservations for next summer at Grant Village and Canyon campgrounds.
Over the years we have camped both in and out of the park. Each has its advantages - but do not underestimate the summer traffic going in and out of Yellowstone.
We stayed at Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone...full service park with awesome amenities. Just a short drive to West entrance. They can take any size rig known to humankind.
We have stayed at Fishing Bridge three times, and each time we said never again. If you like being a sardine, this is the place for you. In all fairness they did some renovations to the campground and I don't know what it is like now.
Two years ago some friends of ours wanted to go to Yellowstone and have us along. It was kind of late in the game to make reservations and we were "stuck" with Bay Bridge CG. We couldn't have been happier. I believe we were in "B" loop and had a spacious back in site. Our friends have a 32ft Class A and had a nice pull through.
The biggest downside to fishing bridge RV park is that there are no picnic tables or fire pits at the sites. This is because it is a bear intense area, they are often seen moving east to west and vice versa going to and from the Yellowstone River.
